Cochran celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.

Cold temperatures didn't stop people celebrating the birthday and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Monday.  The annual parade was held followed by a progam at Turner Chapel AME Church.  The theme was "Make it a day on, not a day off' and featured music from the NAACP Youth Choir and a message from guest speaker Devonte Harris.  Harrs is the lead pastor of Salem AME Church and Bethel AME Church in Bronwood, Georgia.

Cochran church serving dinner for those who serve.

Salem Baptist Church will once again host "Serving the Servants," a free dinner for city and county firemen, city and county law enforcement, as well as EMS workers January 27. Firemen are invited to eat at 5 pm, police, sheriff's department, and EMS personnel can come starting at 7 pm. Those attending are asked to call (478)308-4912 to confirm by January 20.

Bleckley band members selected to perform at area, state events.

Four members of the BCHS Concert Band will be traveling to Athens for the University of Georgia's annual high school band festival known as JanFest. They are Allyson Burke, Logan Fillion, Adam Little, and Rachel Harbin. Harbin was also selected to perform at the Southeast Concert Band Clinic and Honor Band held at Troy University February 1-3. She will be in the showcase concert held on the final day. Fillion was chosen to represent BCHS in the District 11 Georgia Music Educators Association Honor Band. Rehearsals and concerts will take place February 9-10 at Baldwin High School.

Girls win in OT as Bleckley sweeps Southwest.

The Lady Royals came back from 11 down to begin the fourth to force overtime then won 53-46 despite playing the final 2:55 without Jahnaria Brown who had fouled out.  The Royals led by 12 points at halftime and went on to win 65-44.
