Middle Georgia State to offer Master of Science in Management.

Starting summer semester 2017, Middle Georgia State University will begin offering a Master of Science in Management degree. According to a release, the university received approval to offer the degree by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges on February 23. It will be the third Master's Degree offered. MGA currently has Masters of Information Technology and Masters of Nursing Degrees. Location of April Bleckley BOE meeting changed.

At last week's monthly meeting, the Bleckley Board of Education voted to move their April 11th meeting to the BCMS Media Center.  The move is to allow a facilities walkthrough for board members as well as them get a demonstration of the Telehealth System.  Meeting start time remains 7 pm.

A concert benefiting the Reed Floyd Kidney Transplant Fund was held Saturday night inside Russell Hall on the Cochran campus of Middle Georgia State University.  Organizers say over 100 people attended.  Proceeds from the event will go toward the medical expenses of Floyd, a Cochran native born with one kidney now failing.

Donations can also be made to the Reed Floyd Kidney Transplant Fund at Cochran Bank and Trust on Sixth Street.

BCHS girls on the road for elite eight.

Bleckley lost Friday's coin toss to determine the home team for Tuesday's elite eight game against Hapeville Charter.  The game will be at Benjamin Banneker High School, tip time 6 pm.  Directions can be downloaded here.

BCHS baseball shut out by Mary Persons.

Though held to three hits, Bleckley couldn't capitalize on five walks by Bulldog pitching as the Royals were shut out at home 5-0 Thursday night.  Benji Knighton went 2 for 4 with a double.  Lane Kitchens was 1 for 2.  Bleckey hosts West Laurens Monday.  JV play at 4 pm with varsity to follow.

BCHS girls battle their way to the elite eight.

After leading for a majority of Wednesday's second round game against Dade County, Bleckley found themselves down by four with less than three minutes to go in the fourth.  A pair of three-point plays, the second by Aliyah Whitehead with 55 seconds left, put the Lady Royals up 45-43.

BC missed six straight free throws in the final minute but held on to win 45-43.  You can read more coverage of the game here.  Whitehead had 15 points.  Jahnaria Brown led with 16.  

Bleckley takes on 6-AA top seed Hapeville Charter in the elite eight February 28.  A coin toss will decide location.

"The face of Bleckley County High School" retiring.

At the called board meeting naming Von Lassiter BCHS head football coach and athletic director, Superintendent Steve Smith said current AD Benjy Rogers had been "the face of Bleckley County High School" for many years. That face is retiring.  Rogers resignation "with regret" due to retirement was accepted by the Board of Education at their monthly meeting held Tuesday night.
