New trophy case dedicated at BCHS.

Bleckley County High School has a new place to display its many achievements as well as those of Cochran High School. A trophy case dedication ceremony was held Sunday afternoon. Organized by former coach and administrator Ben Dykes, he collected $25,000 in donations for the $16,000 case. Dykes was also responsible for many of the plaques on display inside. Unbeknownst to him, a small plaque on the front of the case recognizes him as well as former coach Billy Padgett.

BCHS boys basketball hosting instructional camp.

The BCHS boys basketball program will host an instructional camp for players in Kindergarten-eighth grade July 9-11 at the high school gym. Cost is $40 per camper, $50 after the deadline of June 8. Cost includes T-Shirt, concessions will be sold. Campers will receive instruction in the fundamentals of basketball, as well as participate in three-point and free-throw contests, plus three on three and five on five tournaments. Two more BCHS athletes sign letters of intent.

Two more BCHS athletes sign letters of intent.

Thursday was another busy day in the high school media center as two more athletes signed letters of intent to continue play in their respective sports.  Andrew Butler becomes the fourth Royal to sign with LaGrange College football.  As a defensive back he had 49 tackles, 36 solo, and 13 assists this year for the Royals.

 

Jasia Taylor is the second athlete this week to sign with Brewton Parker College, joining the soccer team.  Taylor's work and effort as a three-year starter were noted as a reason for her signing.

Boys basketball coach, other news, from Tuesday BOE meeting.

It was a busy Tuesday night for the Bleckley Board of Education at their monthly meeting.  Garrett Collins was promoted from middle school to high school boys head basketball coach.  A tentative budget was set.  To read more, click here.
