Celebrate math, reading, and Dr. Seuss at Bleckley Primary February 28.

Bleckley Primary will hold math and literacy night Februrary 28 from 4-6 pm.  The drop-in event will feature a variety of activities including a book walk and book swap where children can bring one book to exchange for another.  Also a celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday, the first 50 primary school students to attend will receive a Dr. Seuss treat bag.

Bleckley Pre-K registration for 2019-20 school year March 2.

Bleckley Pre-K will hold registration for the 2019-20 school year March 7 from 9 am to 6 pm.  The school is located at 242 East Dykes Street.  According to a release, children must be age four on or before September 1 to attend.  You are asked to bring the following documents to registration.

Diamond day success gets BCHS first wins of season.

Bleckley picked up their first baseball wins of the season with a pair of victories at Swainsboro High School's Diamond Day. Brody Little gave up one earned run and had seven strikeouts in the Royals 8-1 win over Burke County. He was also 1 for 2. Jack Fernandez went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI. Tripp Purser was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Andrew Thompson went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI. BC capped the day with an 8-4 win against the host Tigers. Little and Lane Kitchens each went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI. Joseph Spires was 2 for 4 with double. Steven Knighton went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.  The Royals home opener is February 25 against Jeff Davis at 6 pm.

Bleckley PTO held their annual Father-Daughter dance Saturday night.  This year's theme was "I love you to the moon and back."  Girls in Pre-K through five came and enjoyed a night of fun on the dance floor and special time with a special guy in their lives.

Bleckley NAACP membership drive March 2.

The Bleckley NAACP chapter will hold a membership drive at Turner Chapel AME Church from noon to 1 pm. Free hot dog plates will be given away. For more information, contact membership chair Michelle Basby, (478)319-9983. The church is located 163 N. Seventh Street.

Early season struggles continue for BCHS baseball.

The Royals fell to 0-4 on the baseball season, losing 11-2 at Jeff Davis Thursday night. Despite getting seven hits, the offense left stranded ten runners for a second straight game. Brody Little and Andrew Thompson each went 2 for 4. Bleckley will play Burke County and Swainsboro High School Saturday at Swainsboro. Game times are 10 am and 3 pm.

Promise of Hope seeking help with supplies for new program.

Promise of Hope men's campus in Cochran are seeking help with household items for a new program. Items needed include twin mattresses, box springs, rugs, pots and pans for the kitchen, paper towel holders, bedside lamps, and rugs for both the bedroom and bathroom.
