Another double signing as two BCHS basketball players commit.

For the second time this spring, the BCHS media center hosted  a double signing as pair of Lady Royals basketball players signed letters of intent.  Jahnaria Brown will be heading north to Georgia Highlands Colege.  She averaged 18.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.6 steals.  Chania McRae will be going to Mt. Vernon to play for Brewton Parker College.  She averaged 7.8 points. 5.8 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.6 assists.

Car wash, bake sale, will raise funds for children's ministry trip to summer camp.

House of Grace Church's Kingdom Kids Children's Ministry will hold a car wash and bake sale May 19 from 9 am-1 pm at the Citizens Bank of Cochran, 242 East Dykes Street. Proceeds will go toward this year's trip to summer camp.

Girls tennis repeats as state champions, boys finish runner up.

The Bleckley County High School girls tennis team won a second straight state title Saturday, defeating Berrien High School 3-2.  Wins came from Abbey Sims, and both doubles teams, Regan Cole/Jordan Williams, and Bailey Odom/Emily Sanders.

 

The boys fell to Benedictine Military Academy 3-2.  Both doubles matches were tied and pulled following three singles defeats.

BCHS Royal Singers Spring, Senior, concerts May 19.

The BCHS Royal Singers will hold their spring and senior concerts May 19. The spring concert will be at 4:30 pm, the senior concert will take place following a brief intermission. Admission is $5 adults, $3 for children and students.

Reverse beauty pageant raises funds for Buddy Ball.

There was something different about the contestants in a beauty pagent held Friday night in the BCHS auditorium.  Some of the names were unique, Ivory Bliss Nesbit.  They had wigs, some wore tennis shoes.  These "ladies" were actually male BCHS students participating in the first ever Miss Royal Reverse Pageant.  A fundraiser for Buddy Ball, donations from People's Choice awards went into a check presented to organizer Danette Rogers.  The pageant raised $592.41.

Cochran church opening food bank May 18.

Faith Temple Precious Faith Ministries will open their food bank to local residents May 18 from 4-5 pm. For more information, call Sherri Ligon, (478)298-2844. The church is located at 383 GA 87. 

Bleckley BOE accepts resignations, fills position, as part of called meeting.

The Bleckley Board of Education held a special called meeting Tuesday night for whole board training as well as action on personnel matters. They accepted the resignations of teacher, assistant football coach, as well as head boys basketball coach Randall Owens plus middle and high school band director Steve Whitaker. According to the minutes, each are effective June 30. Matthew McClellan was hired as new band director. The profile on Owens' Twitter account states he is now an assistant football and boys basketball coach at Veterans High School.
