Bleckley Primary, BCES, holding literacy night events February 27.

Both Bleckley Primary and Bleckley Elementary will hold literacy night events February 27.  Bleckley Primary's literacy night will also be a celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday.  It's a drop-in event, 4-6 pm.  Activities include various literacy games, book walk, and book swap (bring a book from home to exchange for another.)  Students will also be able to shop at the book fair.

 

Bleckley Elementary is encouraging students to "solve the mystery" at their literacy night, 5:30-7 pm.  It will also include literacy games and an opportunity to shop at the book fair.  Students who bring a gently used book to donate to the school's summer reading program will be given an extra chance at door prizes that will be given away.

Another wet night in Cochran.

Another wet night in Cochran.

Though the water didn't get as high as two weeks ago, Thursday night was another wet one around Cochran and Bleckley County.  There were reports of road closures, Dykes Landing was closed due to the high river level.  Water overflowed and puddled along parts of Dykes Street in town.

Weather disrupts BCHS spring sporting events.

Though spring sports have started at Bleckley County High School, no one has gotten to play due to this week's rains.  Soccer saw their only match of the week at GMC Tuesday night cancelled due to wet field conditions.  They play at Crisp County February 25.

 

Tennis had matches home matches against Northeast  on Tuesday and Stratforc Academy postponed.  The Stratford match will be made up March 12.  The team's next match will be February 25 at home against Washington County.

 

Royals baseball's hme opener today against River Ridge was postponed.  Their next game is February 25 at West Laurens.

Bleckley PTO Father-Daughter Dance tickets on sale.

Tickets for this year's Bleckley PTO Father-Daughter dance, "Light Up The Night: Daddy-Daughter Glow Dance, are on sale in the main offices of Bleckley Pre-K, Bleckley Primary, and Bleckley Elementary. Tickets are $25 per couple, $10 for each additional child. This year's dance will be February 29 from 6-8 pm at BCHS. Setup will be February 28 from 6-9 pm. A signup sheet for parents wishing to volunteer will also be in all three school offices.

On Friday mornings at Bleckley Elementary, teachers have the opportunity to get their morning caffeine fix from the "Jitterbug Joe" coffee cart. Manned by BCES special needs students under the watchful eye of teacher Riley Troili and parapro Tisha Bailey, it helps the students gain valuable life skills.  Click here for more.

Turner Chapel AME Church hosting census information event February 23.

Steven Gallaway from Fair Count will hold an information and community involvement session regarding the 2020 U.S. Census February 23 at 1:15 pm inside the Fellowship Hall at Turner Chapel AME Church. The church is located at 163 N. Seventh Street in Cochran.

Cochran Masonic Lodge pancake breakfast February 22.

Cochran Masonic Lodge 217 F&AM will hold a pancake brekfast February 22 from 7-10 am at the lodge, 217 Masonic Drive.  Cost is $5 for all you can eat pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea, and orange juice.  Uniformed law enforcement officers and children eat free.  All proceeds benefit the Joe Lassiter Secret Santa Fund.
