Bleckley BOE makes small adjustment to FY19 school calendar.

At Tuesday's monthly meeting, the Bleckley County Board of Education made a small adjustment to this year's school calendar, changing March 29 to a half day for students.  It will be the last day before spring break.

Cold bats on a cold night in Dexter.

It was a cold, windy night when BCHS baseball traveled to Dexter to play West Laurens.  The Royal offense was also cold, mustering just four hits in a 6-3 loss.  To read more, click here.

Trying to fill a desperate need.

With last month’s government shutdown as well as winter weather in many locations, the American Red Cross has a desperate need for blood. Monday, they were trying to fill the need with a drive at the Bleckley County Extension Office. While numbers were low possibly due to it being President’s Day, volunteers appreciated all who donated. The next drive will be April 22.

Turner Chapel AME Church holding pastor appreciation day February 24.

Turner Chapel AME Church, located at 163 N. Seventh Street in Cochran, will celebrate their pastor, the Rev. Lodenia W. Coleman, along with her husband, Rev. Robert Coleman, with "Pastor Appreciation Day" February 24 at 3 pm.  The theme is "A pastor after God's own heart, a 24-hour servant leader."  Guest speaker will be Rev. Charles Hicks, pastor of New Greater Allen Temple AME Church in Byron.  Dinner to follow the service.

Local softball player named MVP at tournament.

Local softball player named MVP at tournament.

Though she plays with another team, Mallory Sears has been helping out with The B-Team, a new travel softball team designed to help local players get better and prepare for the next level of school ball.  Saturday, she picked up with them in their debut at Southern Pines.  Sears was voted by the umpires as tournament MVP.

Tough weekend at the beach for BCHS.

Bleckley baseball opened their regular season with a pair of games at Edo Miller Park in Brunswick.  Friday, the Royals lost 5-1 to Gainesville.  Saturday, they cut a 6-2 deficit against Savannah Christian to one but lost 7-5.  BCHS plays at West Laurens Februrary 19.  JV at 4 pm, varsity to follow.

Bleckley PTO meeting February 19.

The Bleckley PTO will meet February 19 at 6 pm in the primary school art classroom/gym building located behind the school. Discussion will include the upcoming Father/Daughter dance as well as plans for a Mother/Son night event and Teacher Appreciation week. The meeting is open to all parents and guardians of children in grades Pre-K through fifth.
