Food bank providing food to kids when not in school seeking donations.

Cochran Pediatrician Dr. Bill's Kids operates a food pantry designed to provide food for local children who may not have food when not in school. Donations of non-perishable food items such as peanut butter, crackers, Vienna sausages, pop tarts, would be appreciated. Items can be dropped off at the office, 426 GA 26 E.

BCHS CTSOs holding annual canned food drive at Christmas parade.

Bleckley County High School's FBLA, HOSA, FCCLA, and Work Based Learning will once again hold the "Parade Pantry" canned food drive at the Cochran Christmas Parade December 7. The groups ask people bring canned or other non-perishable food items to donate. Members will be pushing lighted shopping carts. Food will be donated locally.

City of Cochran to hold public hearing on Urban Renewal Plan December 4.

The City of Cochran will hold a public hearing on an Urban Redevelopment plan December 4 at 6:30 pm in the Community House, 192 S. Third St. According to a post on the city's Facebook page, primary objectives will be to promote housing development and reinvestment while addressing public infrastructure problems as well as unsightly and hazardous private property conditions.

Topics to include down revitalization, blighted areas in the city, and business investment opportunities. The Heart of Georgia Regional Commission is assisting with the plan, and representatives will be on hand at the meeting to receive public comments on areas that could benefit from reinvestment.

The Bleckley County Retired Educators will hold their monthly meeting December 5 at noon. Meetings are held at the County Extension Office, 165 E. Peacock St. Contact Kathy Jones, (478)230-7047 by December 2 to confirm your meal.

BCHS splits home basketball opener.

BCHS splits home basketball opener.

The Lady Royals lost to Montgomery County 49-41 Tuesday night. Alyssa Fortune had 12 points, Jalexia Taylor scored 11. Nykeem Farrow was one of three players in double figures for the Royals with 24 points as the Royals won 77-70. Shontavian Manuel had 20 points. Mekhi Farrow added 13 points. Bleckley hosts Westside-Macon November 30. JV girls play at 4:15 pm with varsity to follow.

Christmas events at local churches starting this weekend.

Two local churches will be holding Christmas-themed events December 1. Empire Pentecostal Holiness Church will have Breakfast with Santa from 8-11 am. Breakfast, a time for photos, then crafts and stories. That night, Longstreet United Methodist Church has their annual chili/soup supper and carol sing.
