Schools closed in Cochran tomorrow, shelter to open for local residents.

All Bleckley County schools as well as Middle Georgia State University will be closed tomorrow due to Hurricane Michael strengthening.   Both announcements came via Twitter.  House of Grace Church, 133 Jac Arts Road, will open tonight as a storm shelter at 6 pm tonight for local residents only.  Call (478)319-2646 for more information.

BCHS advances in softball playoffs.

The Lady Royals hit threee home runs including a game-clinching two-run shot by Riley Edge in game one, to sweep their opening state playoff series against Metter 10-1, 14-4.  To read more, click here.

Free items available at "Share Day" yard sale.

The second annual "Share Day" free yard sell will be held at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church from 8 am-noon. Items available include clothes of all sizes, toys, household items, and furniture, all free to pick up. Hot chocolate and muffins at 8, hot dogs served at 11 am. Call Angie Foley to donate items or for more information, 757-846-4050. Mt. Calvary is located at 134 Abney Road in Cochran.

Story Time at the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran-Bleckley Library will be October 17 at 10 am.  Reader will be Margaret Kilpatrick.  Story Time is presented by Bleckley County Retired Educators.

Cheerleaders gain from "Battle at the Colosseum."

For the second straight Saturday, BCHS traveled in order to be scored by different judges, going to Johns Creeek High School for the "Battle at the Colosseum."  While winning was nice, Bleckley was scored tougher, getting feedback that will help in their goals of winning region and building on last year's sixth place finish at state.

BCHS football unable to overcome bad start at Washington County.

Washington County scored 21 first quarter points off Bleckley turnovers, including an interception returned for six points, Friday night in Sandersville. The Royals could not recover and went on to lose 54-20. Dominic Sasser, playing for an injured Zach Lassiter, threw a pair of touchdown passes to Nykeem Farrow. One was 75 yards, the other 41. BCHS will celebrate Homecoming October 12 against East Laurens at 7:30 pm. 

BCHS One Act to perform "All Shook Up" October 14-16.

Bleckley County High School One Act Play will have community performances of this year's competition selection All Shook Up October 14-16 in the auditorium. Times are 3 pm that Sunday, 7:30 pm on both Monday and Tuesday. Admission is $6 adults, $3 students. BCHS will also be the host for this region one act play competition October 18. Bleckley will take the stage at approximately 4:15 pm. Admission is free. No photography nor videography at region per GHSA rules.
