BCHS girls upend Dodge for 3-AA title.

Second seed Bleckley defeated the top seeded Dodge County Squaws 64-57 for the 3-AA title Saturday night at Dublin High School.  Fellisia Young led with 18 points.  Jahnaria Brown and Kiziya Elvine added 11 points each.

Also Saturday, the Royals won their consolation game against Southwest Macon 72-50.  Torenio Davis had 28 points.  Willie Taylor scored 12 points with Nykeem Farrow adding 10.

BC girls advance, boys lose, in semifinals.

Jahnaria Brown scored 20 points and Aliyah Whitehead added 17 points as the Lady Royals defeated Washington County in a 3-AA semifinal Friday afternoon at Dublin High School.  They'll play top seed Dodge County for the region title tonight at 7:30 pm.

The Royals trailed Washington County 38-32 early in the fourth but were outscored 20-3 the rest of the way in losing 58-35.  Torenio Davis had 11 points.  They take on Southwest Macon for third place this afternoon at 5:30.

Desert theatre fundraiser will raise funds for student mission trip.

Cochran First Baptist Church will hold "Songs and Sweets" February 19 at 5:30 pm.  Enjoy a variety of deserts while listening to music, skits, dramatic readings, performed by church members and others.  Cost is donation with proceeds going to the senior student mission trip to Uganda.

BCHS baseball wins scrimmage.

Bleckey won a home baseball scrimmage played against Monticello 14-0 Thursday afternoon.  Their season opener will be on Valentine's Day at Hawkinsville.  First pitch 5:30 pm.

Pork chop plate, other fundraisers, will benefit local woman battling cancer.

A pork chop plate sale as well as bake sale and baked goods auction will be held at Cochran First Baptist Church February 18 from 11 am-3 pm.  Plates include grilled pork chop, potato salad, baked beans, roll, and desert.  Baked goods auction starts at noon and will be done by auctioneer Sammy Haupt.  Cost of plates and bake sale items is donation.  Limited number of plates available.  Donations are sought for the bake sale and auction, they can be left at the church that day any time after 8 am.  Proceeds will benefit the medical expenses of Sheila Davis, recently diagnosed with cancer.  The church is located at 101 S Second St.

BC basketball teams advance to region semifinals.

Jahnaria Brown scored 10 of her team-leading 18 points in the second quarter as the third seeded Lady Royals clinched a 3-AA semifinal berth with a 56-31 win over Northeast.  The Royals rallied from 11 points down in the third quarter to tie the game at 50 and went on to win 66-61 in overtime.  Torenio Davis scored 10 of his 28 points in the extra session. Nykeem Farrow added 12 points.

With the win, the third-seeded Royals clinch a state playoff berth for the first time since 2013.  Both teams take on Washington County in semifinal action Friday at Dublin High School.  Girls tip at 4 pm, boys 5:30.

Bleckley BOE names Lassiter new head football coach.

The Bleckley Board of Education named Von Lassiter new Royals head football coach at a called meeting held Tuesday night.  Lassiter, who has spent the past four seasons leading Houston County, will be head coach as well as athletic director.  He starts March 1 pending release from his current contract.
