BCHS splits with West Laurens.

In their first game since Thanksgiving, Bleckley basketball split a pair of home games with West Laurens Friday night.  Jahnaria Brown had 31 points and Chania McRae added 10 points, lifting the Lady Royals to a 55-42 win.  The Raiders upended the Royals 57-53.  Torenio Davis scored 20 points, Mykel Anderson finished with 15 points.

Region play begins December 5 at home against Northeast.  Varsity games start at 6 pm.

A busy schedule of Christmas events and services stars tomorrow with Longstreet United Methodist Church hodling their annual carol sing.  Sunday, both Mt. Fish fry will benefit local man battling cancer, needy family during Christmas.

First Baptist Church  of Cochran will hold a benefit fish fry December 7 at 7 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Cost is $20 donation. Plates will have fish, french fries, hush puppies, coleslaw. Door prizes, items for auction including Glock 42, Yeti Hopper, fishing accessories, and cakes. Money raised will go toward Brian Smith, a local man battling cancer, as well as a needy family during Christmas. Only 250 tickets will be sold. Cochran community blood drive December 4.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive December 4 from 2-7 pm in the Bleckley County Extension Office main building, 165 E Peacock St.  To schedule an appointment online, visit redcrossblood.org, and use the sponsor code "Bleckley."

Middle Georgia State's Border Tuition Waiver extended to Cochran campus.

Students from bordering states wishing to take classes on the Cochran campus of Middle Georgia State University will get a break on tuition. MGA will now offer in-state tuition to students from Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and Tennessee. In-state tuition for a full course load is $1,663 per semester, out of state is $4,480. The move was approved by the Board of Regents during their November meeting. The Eastman campus, home of the School of Aviation, was approved for the same waiver earlier this year. Local sports this week in Cochran.

With school starting back, sports are resuming at both Bleckley County Middle School and BCHS.  Tuesday, BCMS soccer teams host JR Trippe.  Wednesday will be eighth grade recognition when they host Dodge County.  Both games start at 3:30 pm.

December 1, BCHS basketball returns to the court, hosting West Laurens.  Varsity games start at 6 pm.  Both the girls and boys are 1-0 on the young season.
