FVSU & Wilkinson Chamber to Offer High School Business Conference

Fort Valley State University’s  (FVSU) Rural Business Outreach Institute (RBOI), in partnership with the Wilkinson County Chamber of Commerce, will host The “RBOI Apprentice” Business Conference at Wilkinson County High School. 

The goal of the conference is to provide students with an interactive and hands-on learning experience, according to a FVSU RBOI news release. 

“Students will have an opportunity to learn new business skills and will put them to use as they work in teams to create a new business venture,” says Arizona White, RBOI Program Coordinator.

The conference is scheduled for February 11.

Conference topics are scheduled to include:

1. Writing a business plan
2. Using technology to market a business
3. Powerful presentation skills

Tickets are $10, and can be purchased from any Dodge Arts Guild member, from the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, and at the door prior to showtime.

Dublin Sweeps Dodge County in Region Basketball

In an exciting defensive battle where the Dublin boys only scored 7 points in the second quarter, the Fightin' Irish came out fighting to beat the Indians 44-40. The Dublin girls pushed through for a win over the Lady Indians 38-32.

Bleckley Sweeps Season Series from Twiggs

Rickenya Jenkins scored 15 points and Myesha Moore added 10 off the bench as the Lady Royals doubled up Twiggs County 54-27.  DeMario Beck had 15 points off the bench and was amongst four Royals in double figures as they beat the Cobras 78-48. 

Marcus Mack had 12 points, Vidal Nelson and Brentine Taylor added 10 each.

Bleckley plays at Swainsboro Saturday.  JV games tip at 3 p.m. with varsity to follow.

The Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra Debuts Pure Pleasure

Dr. Charles L. Quinn, Artisitic Director of the Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra, invites you to enjoy the fourth concert in the Orchestra's 2010-2011 concert series: Pure Pleasure.

Highlighting the talents of Martin Gueorguiev on the violoncello and conductor, Adrian Gnam, Pure Pleasure will feature Mozart's Don Giovanni Overture, Haydn's Cello Concerto in D-Major, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.

The Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra offers two performances of Pure Pleasure: February 26th at 7:30 p.m. at the Opera House in Hawkinsville or February 27 at 3 p.m. at Wesleyan College in Macon.

On January 18 the 2010-2011 Leadership Dodge Class held their session focusing on the economic impact of healthcare in Dodge County.

Hosted by Dodge County Hospital, the session discussed the importance of community support for the continual growth and financial stability of the hospital in relation to the economic development and growth of Dodge County.  With a $57 million impact on the regional economy, Dodge County Hospital’s continued success and growth is vital to Dodge County and the surrounding counties’ economic future.

With over 200 fulltime employees in the hospital and physician’s clinics, as well as its role in providing quickly accessible, high quality care to the children of Dodge County, Dodge County Hospital plays an integral role in community and economic development.

Eastman-Dodge County Recreation Department Breaks Ground on New Building

The Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new multipurpose building at the Eastman-Dodge County Recreation Department funded courtesy of an ALCOA grant.

The new multipurpose building will house 4-H and other activities. Featuring an enclosed area with heating and air conditioning, as well as bathroom and kitchen facilities, the new building will also be available for private events and parties.
