GDOT to restrict lane closures for Memorial Day weekend.

The Georgia Department of Transportation will make it a bit easier for people on the road this Memorial Day weekend. They announced yesterday the suspension of construction-related lane closures on Interstate highways from noon May 25 through 5 am May 29. They will also limit lane closures on state routes that directly serve major tourists and recreation centers. The DOT reminds motorists that crews still may work in proximity to highways and safety concerns may require long-term lane closures to remain in place. Lane closures could also take place due to incident or emergency maintenance management.

New trophy case dedicated at BCHS.

Bleckley County High School has a new place to display its many achievements as well as those of Cochran High School. A trophy case dedication ceremony was held Sunday afternoon. Organized by former coach and administrator Ben Dykes, he collected $25,000 in donations for the $16,000 case. Dykes was also responsible for many of the plaques on display inside. Unbeknownst to him, a small plaque on the front of the case recognizes him as well as former coach Billy Padgett.
