McFadden Wins Seat on Ga. Appeals Court

ATLANTA (AP) -- Attorney Chris McFadden has won a runoff for an open seat on Georgia's Appeals Court.

Unofficial returns Tuesday showed the 53-year-old attorney won
62 percent of the vote compared to 38 percent for Antoinette Davis with 99 percent of precincts reporting.

His victory marked a come-from-behind win in the nonpartisan,
statewide race. McFadden finished behind Davis in the Nov. 2
general election. But since neither candidate won 50 percent plus one vote, they were forced into a runoff.

McFadden has a law office in Decatur.

During the race, he emphasized his two decades of experience
handling legal appeals in Georgia. He co-wrote a legal reference
book on appellate practice in the state.

Nahmias Wins Runoff to Keep Ga. Supreme Court Seat

ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia Supreme Court Justice David Nahmias
has won a runoff election to keep his seat on the bench.

Unofficial returns Tuesday showed Nahmias winning 67 percent of the vote compared to 33 percent for challenger Tammy Lynn Adkins with 99 percent of precincts reporting.

The two candidates were forced into a runoff since neither
candidate won 50 percent plus one vote in the general election.
Republican Gov. Sonny Perdue appointed Nahmias to the state's
high court in August 2009. He previously served as a U.S. attorney and a clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

Adkins is a divorce lawyer who ran unsuccessfully for the Court
of Appeals in 2008. She did not raise money and did little
campaigning before the general election.
