My Teacher is Tops
News

One second grade class says they've had their favorite teacher two years in a row.

"Oh my goodness!" Kim Peterson says she was in shock when she received the My Teacher is Tops award.

After 19 years of teaching, Mrs. Peterson says having the same batch of students for two of those years makes the classroom feel like home.

"I got to know them last year and knowing that I was going to have them again this year made it that much more special," she says.

Seven-year-old Grace Hendrix says she couldn't imagine spending those years with a more special teacher.

"She is the best teacher in the whole world, and the prettiest," says Hendrix.

After spending two years together, Mrs. Peterson and her second graders know a lot about each other.

"She's always gotta be neat! Her house is even neat!" says Grace Hendrix.

"They know things that I love. They bring me jars of pickles!" Kim Peterson laughs.

And eight-year-old Nathan Dennis says instead of bringing an apple to school, he's proud to bring his teacher her favorite.

"Last time, I brought her a whole jar!" he says.

And the kids say, she makes learning fun.

"Sometimes we have parties of all kinds," says Nathan Dennis.

The students say, they wish Mrs. Peterson could be their teacher for even longer.

"I hope she will remember me as I get older," says Grace Hendrix.

Peterson says, she volunteered to teach the same group of kids this year after hearing that South Dodge Elementary needed another second grade teacher.
