Grappling Indians Compete at Yellow Jacket Invitational

The Grappling Indians recently traveled to Statesboro, GA to take part in the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Southeast Bulloch High School.  Competing against eleven teams from across Georgia in 16-man brackets, double-elimination brackets, the Indians turned in some truly impressive performances. Earning first place honors was Co-Captain Will Morgan and freshman heavyweight Aaron Spires. Both wrestlers ended the day undefeated taking on some very talented wrestlers.

Senior Zach Flagg earned second place honors after a long day of tough work on the mat. Losing in early rounds, J.T. Shields and Co-Captain Michael Wrease battled back in the consolation brackets with remarkable performances to claim a third place spots on the podium. Fifth place honors went to Brant Cranford and John Burrows while Kenzie Graham settled for sixth place following an injury in the consolation rounds.

Also wrestling and improving with each match were Jody Fountain, Cobie Green, Jaquan Mann, Tyler Gruben, and Jerald Gay. The Grappling Indians will travel to Toombs County this weekend to compete in a 23-team marathon tournament against the best of the best in the south east.

As the season enters into tournament action, Senior Will Morgan, 126 lbs,  will seek to qualify for his fourth consecutive state tournament and a chance to set a new Dodge County Wrestling high school record.

Also expected to earn his second chance at the state tournament, Senior Michael Wrease, will battle in the 132 lbs weight class. No other wrestler on the high school team has earned a state tournament birth and Dodge is poised to have several this year who are eager to become state qualifiers.
