Spaces still available at Cochran church's kids music camp

Monday was the first day of "Giddyap Giddalong Gideon," the kids summer music camp being held by Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  They'll be performing Sunday at 6 pm with a finger food fellowship to be held afterward.  Spaces are still available for the camp, which runs through Friday.  Times are 6-8:30 p.m.

Cochran church to hold kids music camp

Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will host Giddyup Giddalong Giddeon summer music camp July 7-11 from 6-8:30 pm. Performance date is July 13 at 6 pm.  Cost is $35 and is for children who've completed Pre-K through fifth grade. Call the church office, 478-934-0810, or 478-275-9830 (leave a message) to register.

MIguel Castro, current artist in residence for Middle Georgia State College's instrumental music program and percussion instructor for the Bleckley County High School Royal Kingsmen Band, had two of his original compositions featured during the second season of the HBO series Vice.

According to a relase from the college, Castro's "Bugaku" was used during episode three.  His piece "Brigamo" was used during episode five.  Both come from the cd World Percussion – Rhythm Journey.  Castro is based on the Cochran campus.

The Cochran-Bleckley Arts Alliance will hold a public forum to hear suggestions on what residents would like to see from the CBAA.  It's set for June 10 at 7 pm in the city auditorium, 102 N. Second Street.

Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp to perform Willy Wonka

Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp participants will have commuity performances of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory June 6-8 at the city auditorium.  

Times are 7 p.m. that Friday and Saturday with 2 p.m. performances on Saturday and Sunday.  

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students.

Classic country at the Bleckley County Jamboree

For almost four years now, a small community center on Highway 126 in Bleckley County has been the place to go if you wanted to hear classic country and gospel music.  The Bleckley County Jamboree, stared by Cochran native Josh Lucas, is every Friday at 7 p.m.  It's held at the Oak Grove Community Center.

Pat Gibbs, who runs the concession stand, said Lucas started it to provide older people somewhere to go on Friday nights.  The main entertainment is Lucas and his band, but others have performed as well.  Admission is free, donations are welcomed.  The music starts each Friday at 7 pm.

Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp to present Willy Wonka

Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp will present Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.  The camp is for students Pre-K through eighth grade.  Cost is $125 if you bring your own costume, $150 without.  A $25 late fee will be charged for anyone registering after Camp will be held at Cochran City Auditorium.  Auditions are June 1, 3-5 pm with camp going June 2-6 from 9 am-2 pm.  Performances will be June 6-8.
