Governor Nathan Deal signed legislation May 12 that officially moves Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) under the operational umbrella of the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) beginning July 1, 2011, the start of the state’s fiscal year. One man with many voices to raise funds for ABC Women's Clinic.

BJ Thomas was at the Cochran City Auditorium Friday night.  So was Lionel Richie, Garth Brooks, and even Kenny Rogers.   Well, not exactly.  Michael Kelly did use those voices and many more in a benefit for the ABC Women's Clinic.  Kelly is a vocal impressionist and will perform songs in the voice of the original artist.  He used those many voices in a benefit for the ABC Women's Clinic mobile unit.  The mobile unit is an RV that travels to Cochran  and  provides free Christian-based pregnancy services to women including  pregnancy tests, sonograms, and counseling.

Magnolia Music & Medicine Show Features The Wrights on May 7

Magnolia Music & Medicine Show Features The Wrights on May 7

The Wrights deliver a jaw-dropping set of signature Americana, folk laced with bluegrass harmonies and the cleanest, slickest, blues/roots Stratocaster playing you've ever heard. This married duo, Shannon and Adam Wright, are immediately comparable to the early Gillian Welch/Dave Rawlings (when T Bone Burnett took the helm as producer). But unlike Welch, whose songs lean heavily toward the slow melancholy burn of a July afternoon, The Wrights keep the pace rolling with their unique version of upbeat Roots-rockin' bluegrass.
