The Middle Georgia College (MGC) Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble gave a Holiday Concert for students, family, and community members on Dec. 6 at Walker Hall Auditorium.

The Jazz Band, directed by Miguel Castro, played both holiday pieces and highlights from their Fall Concert. “We chose two or three favorite songs from the last concert as a way of performing for people who didn’t see the full concert in the fall,” said Castro. “We chose ones the students enjoyed playing.” Selections included “Phat Kat,” which incorporated Caribbean sounds, as well as the “Peter Gunn Theme,” a funk piece, and the encore “Soul Man,” the news release says.

The opener, “Have A Cool Yule,” allowed different sections to do something special, said Castro. They slowed things down with “Christmas Time is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas.  The band showcased a swing style with “Swingle All The Way” and “A Jazzy Merry Christmas.”
