Cochran Woman Keeps Promise to Mom

Promises made to mothers are ones that none of us want to break.

And Linda Warren of Cochran is making sure she doesn't do that.

A stay-home-mom/wife, Linda is the chairperson for the Bleckley County American Cancer Society Relay for Life. She has been involved with the Relay for five years, and this will be her third year as chair.

She first got involved in Relay because of “my children. There is so much cancer around I felt that one day they would have to face it ,and I don't want that, s o I thought, I would join the fight to raise money and find a cure.”

Then her mother made her make a promise.

“Around two weeks after accepting the chair position, I found out that my mother had ovarian cancer. She passed away about four months before our Relay, and she made me promise that I would stay active in Relay for Life,” Linda said, and added, “She loved wearing her bracelet that said, 'Fight like a Girl.'”

Linda continued, “ I know that God has led me to being a part of Relay For Life, and I will fight to find a cure - the best way I can . . . raising money”

She said, “There is so much the the American Cancer Society does that people don't know about. I encourage everyone to check it out.”

Linda added,”We need all the help we can get. Everything about Relay is hundred percent volunteer, and we are looking for teams and committee members.”

She said, “We have a committee meeting coming up on Sept. 13 at 6;30 at the library in Cochran. In November, we will be having a wrap-up for this year, and a kick-off for next year. No date yet, but will be announced soon.”

Linda said, “Right now you can buy a chance on two gas cards for $1.00 or for $10.00 you get 13 chances. $100.00 and $50.00 gas cards.”

She said, “We will also have a booth at the October 20 festival in downtown Cochran.”

Linda said, “Not everyone can give money but there is something everyone can do.”
