BCMS cheerleaders overcome adversity to win.

One of the most jarring, unsettling things that can happen to any cheerleading squad during a competition is to have their music malfunction.  That happpened to the Bleckley County Middle School cheer squad while competing at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School Saturday.  In the middle of their routine, the music just stopped.  However, BC would go on, sticking everything and won first place in the A/AA division.  They return to action October 28 at the Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Swainsboro High School.

Though down a person due to injury, BCHS won their second straight cheerleading competition, placing first at Quest for the Best hosted by Ola High School.  Read more here.  BCHS is scheduled to compete at Johns Creek October 7.

The Runnin' Royals girls cross country team won the Bleckley County Invitational held Thursday afternoon.  Austin Perez was fourth individually.  The boys finished fifth.  Garrett Rogers was top individual for BC, finishing third.  Bleckley travels to Sanedersville for the Washington County Invitational October 5.

Both the Bleckley middle and high school competition cheer squads competed at the West Laurens Raider Rumble Saturday.  BCMS placed second out of 10 teams.  South Effingham finished first, they're the feeder for 5A South Effingham High School.  They'll return to action October 14 at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School.

BCHS won the AA division.  They also were awarded the grand championship for having the highest score of all squads competing.  The Royals will compete at Ola High School September 30.

Saturday was the annual "Clash of the Classes" at the Bleckley County High School cross country course.  It's a unqiue race in which grades would compete against each other (IE: all sophomores in one race.)  Though Bleckley did not have a top individual, they won the overall team award.

The Runnin' Royals will be back in action at the Bay Invitational September 9 in Panama City Beach, Florida.

Because of things like injuries and schedule conflicts, Bleckley-based Heat baseball hadn't gotten to play since last year.  They hadn't even practiced. The team reunited (with some pickup players) for CAMSPORTS-USA's Summer Nationals at Southern Pines this past weekend. Heat made it to the championship game of the 15/16-u division, falling in the finale by one run.

Bleckley County High School Beta Club members who won state competition attended the National Beta Club Convention in Orlando, Florida this past weekend.  Tucker Felkins placed third, Evan Thomas fourth, in Agriculture Competition.  The Beta Club Show Choir finished fifth.  They were directed by BCHS Show Choir Director Kelli Greer.
