Bleckley has best finish in Columbus since 2008.

It capped what was a remarkable turnaround for BCHS cheerleading.  A week after multiple mistakes caused them to finish fourth at region, Bleckley had their best finish in nine years at the state finals in Columbus, sixth place.  Read more here.

BCHS girls repeat as cross country champs, boys finish third.

For the first time in school history, BCHS has had two teams repeat as state champions.  The Runnin' Royals girls cross country team won their second straight state title Saturday in Carrolton.  Austin Lopez became the first girls individual state champion since Ashley Arnold.  The boys finished third, Garrett Rogers won the boys individual title.

Cheerleaders bring home trophies at final regular season competitions.

Saturday was the final tuneup for both the BCMS and BCHS competiion cheer squads before region.  BCMS placed second at Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Swainsboro High School.  MGMSAA Region will be November 6 at Dublin Middle School.

BCHS won the Northgage Cheer Classic.  3-AA Region is November 4 at West Laurens High School.

Bleckley FFA Forestry team wins national title.

The Bleckley FFA Forestry Team won the National Forestry Career Development Event Friday at the 90th FFA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Team members are Blake Bohannon, Tucker Felkins, LeAnn Hearn, and Jacob Smith. Doyle Floyd is advisor. Bleckley had the top three overall individual places, Bohannon first, Felkins second, Smith third. Hearn finished seventh. Bohannon was first in practicum, Felkins first in test.

Local travel team does well in season debut.

Bleckley-based Crush 04 made their season debut at the USSSA Pink Out played at Southern Pines in Dublin.  They officially were now a 14-u team after playing one 14-u tournament last season.  After going undefeated during the day, Crush's lone loss came in the title game against Middle GA Impact.  Trailing 5-4 in the final inning, Impact scored four runs with two outs to seal the game.

One of the most jarring, unsettling things that can happen to any cheerleading squad during a competition is to have their music malfunction.  That happpened to the Bleckley County Middle School cheer squad while competing at the Sweet Onion Cheer Classic hosted by Vidalia High School Saturday.  In the middle of their routine, the music just stopped.  However, BC would go on, sticking everything and won first place in the A/AA division.  They return to action October 28 at the Rumble in the Jungle hosted by Swainsboro High School.
