Bleckley School District recognized at Golden Radish Awards.
The Bleckley County School District received two prestigious awards at Tuesday’s Golden Radish Awards Ceremony held in Atlanta.  The event, hosted by hosted by Georgia Organics, UGA Cooperative Extension, and the Georgia Departments of Education, Agriculture, Public Health, and the Department of Early Care and Learning, recognizes districts across the state for their farm to school programming.   Bleckley received the Platinum Golden Radish Award for the highest level of participation.  Also recognized was Pre-K teacher Kristen Sims who received the Georgia Department of Agriculture's Georgia Grown Teacher of the Year.

Bleckley County High School senior cheerleader Anna Brown tried out for the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association All State Squad today at Columbus State University. Though she didn't make the squad, Brown finished in the top 40 from over 140 applicants. Head coach Heather Davis was extremely proud of her being in the top 40 saying "She's beautiful inside and out and I am so proud. I can't wait to see what God has in store for her."

Bleckley FFA alum finalist for national agribusiness award.

Hadden Powell, a 2018 graduate of Bleckley County High School and American FFA Degree recipient, is a finalist for the American Star in Agribusiness award. He’s one of four finalist for the award. Powell is currently enrolled at UGA and owns Powells & Company Florists in Montrose. Besides receiving an American FFA Degree (the organization’s highest level of student accomplishment, other requirements include demonstrating top management skills and completing key agricultural education, scholastic, as well as leadership requirements. A panel of judges will interview all finalists at the FFA National Convention October 30-November 2 in Indianapolis. The winner will be announced November 1.

Bleckley County Extension Agent Brandi McGonagill was recently named 4-H Extension Agent of the Year as well as recipient of the William H. Booth Award which recognizes Extension Agents in the 4-H program.  Click here for more.

 

Bleckley 10u baseball wins Dixie Youth State Title.

Bleckley 10u baseball wins Dixie Youth State Title.

The 10u all star baseball team won the Dixie Youth Division II state title Sunday afternoon in Cochran, edging Taylor County 12-11. They head to Lumberton, North Carolina for the world series and will open play against Virginia July 25 at 10:30 am.

Bleckley's Cranford named USTFCCA State Coach of the Year.

Boys assistant track coach Shelly Cranford was named Thursday as the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association state track and field coach of the year. Cranford served as distance coach and assisted in other events on the boys team that won the first state title in school history. As a state winner, he'll be in consideration for the national coach of the year award that will be announced later this month.   Click here for more.
