Cochran Flies Christian Flag, Mayor says, "We represent God all the time"

Cochran Flies Christian Flag, Mayor says, "We represent God all the time"

In a society where even the words, “Christianity,” “God” or a head bowed in prayer can create a media frenzy equal to a category five tornado, the rural community of Cochran threw caution to the wind, and raised the Christian flag March 20 in front of the Cochran City Hall. The ceremony was quiet, brief, but memorable.

Cochran Mayor Willie Basby said, “We're not just to represent God at church, we should represent Him all the time, not just on Sundays,” or he said at religious events. The flag will be flown through the end of the town's annual Bible Reading Marathon in May.

Stories Wanted- From the Blogger

Stories Wanted- From the Blogger

Everyone has a story - though most don't realize it. In an effort to promote positive things about middle Georgia, it is this blogger's desire to write as many stories about everyday ordinary people, as well as positive stories about people and their dogs, not just for WMAZ-13, but also in hopes, at the end of the year to compile for a book assignment  called 'Conversations with Everyday Folks' - The Georgia Stories.

If you or someone you know has an hobby or a unique collection or experienced something different - like traveled, met a celebrity, fought in a war and received an honor, is a true volunteer in the community, or if you or someone you know has a dog who's not a typical dog, please e-mail rlhg4@bellsouth.net.

Interviews can be done in person or by phone or by Skype or even Facebook chat.

Let's share the stories of middle Georgia for our friends and neighbors all over to read.

Middle Georgia Dog Rescue Center More Than it Appears

The Georgia Canine Rescue and Rehabilitation, located on MacThompson Road in Cochran is known for being a non-profit rescue that focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of shelter dogs.

But little do people realize that the GCRR offers more services than that.

Heather Zaresky, 29, who started the rescue and rehab nonprofit after working for years as a technician at a veterinarian's office in Atlanta and later in Cochran, announced this week that the GCRR offers grooming, boarding and a gift shop for canines (and dog lovers) as well.

Kids Speak: Bleckley 3rd Graders Talk Being Invisible

It is said, in the entertainment world, that the most challenging work environment involves pets and kids.

But it is a positive challenge – one that most adults should try more often everyday.

Working with kids – talking to kids, or listening to kids.

For when you listen to what kids have to say, there is no telling what you will hear. Sometimes, you might even learn something.

Recently, a group of third grade students at Bleckley County Elementary School were asked the question, “If you were invisible for one day, what would you do and why?”

Valentine's Day: What Does Love Mean to You? Readers answer

Valentine's Day: What Does Love Mean to You? Readers answer

February is known as the month of love – mainly because of Valentine's Day, and the week before, the week of and the week after the holiday meant for sharing love, the definition of love was on the minds of many.

Evelyn Polhill said, “Love is about spending time with your family and friends.” The Detroit native came to Hawkinsville for warmer climates and just for the idea of being more with her family, especially her “four babies … they are my heart.”
