Bleckley 8-u girls all stars wins Wilcox Invitational.

The 8-u girls al star softball team won the Wilcox Invitational Tournament played this week in Rochelle.  Bleckley had goen undefeated the first two days but lost to Crisp County 14-1 Thursday evening, forcing a game two.  In that second game, BC used a four-run top of the sixth to break an 8-8 tie then held on to win 12-9.

They'll be in action Saturday at the Dodge County Invitational.

Local students make OFTC President's, Dean's, Lists.

Oconee Fall Line Technical College announced Thursday the following Bleckley residents made the 2016 Spring Semester President's and Dean's Lists.  To be eligible for the President's List, students must maintain a GPA of 3.5 or higher with a course load of at least 12 credit hours during the term. To make the Dean's List, students must maintain a 3.0 GPA and a course load of at least 7 credit hours during the semester.

BCHS boys track has best finish in school history.

The Bleckley County High School boys track team competed at the Georgia Olympics (boys state) this weekend in Jefferson.  BCHS finished third, the best for boys track in school history.  Individually, Carl Ellis Corley won the 3200 meter run and finished second in the 1600. Will Simmons finished second in the pole vault. Austin Cook was fifth, Anuj Patel sixth in the 800 meter run. The 4x100 team of Lequan Allen, Nykeem Farrow, Logan Pittman and LaDarrick Vickers finished seventh.

It's been a busy few days at Bleckley County High School.  Three athletes recently signed with colleges to continue their careers.  Friday, Cody Evans, quarterback, signed with St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.  Tuesday Austin Cook and Anuj Patel, teammates on both the state winning cross country team as well as this year's region champion boys track team, signed with Clayton State University.

Ellen Powell ran her final high school race Saturday, the 800 meter finals at the state track meet in Albany.  She did what she'd done the last two times in the 800, and so many times in her career.  Win first place.  Powell won the 800 for the third straight time.  She also finished state runner up in the 1600 Friday night.

Bleckley's Pittman named National Football Foundation Scholar Citizen Athlete of the Year.

Bleckley County High School senior football player Logan Pittman has been selected the 2016 Scholar/Citizen Athlete of the Year by the Middle Georgia chapter of the National Football Foundation.  The news was announced in a letter sent to BCHS Head Football Coach Tracy White this week.  Pittman will be recognized as part of an awards banquet on May 12 at the Library Ballroom in Macon.

BCHS runner Ellen Powell signed with Mercer University Friday.  Her scholarship was for track but she will also be a part of the cross country team.  Powell is a four-time individual region champion in cross country and a four-time reigon winner of both the 800 and 1600 meter run.  She also has two straight state titles in the 800 meter run.
