Alcoa Honored Earth Day by Adopting Industrial Blvd

Eastman, GA, USA, April 22, 2013) - Alcoa calls the period between April 21st and June 21st as GreenWorks because this timeframe includes Earth Day, National Arbor Day and World Environment Day.  The Alcoa Architectural Products facility in Eastman celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd by picking up the trash along the one-mile Industrial Blvd.  This was the first of what will become a quarterly schedule by Alcoa employees to keep Eastman litter free by adopting Industrial Blvd.  City Manager, Bea Edge, City Council Members and Judy Madden, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce attended the dedication along with several Alcoa employees.

In less than two hours, 26 Alcoa employees filled around 50 bags of trash.  The City picked up the bags after the event.  Officers from the Eastman Police Department provided an escort to help keep the employees safe along the roadway.  The employees who participated received credit toward the company's community service goals and   wellness program.  Employees were provided with high visibility vests, gloves and trash bags to complete the task.  Several employees commented that the one-mile stretch seemed much longer especially walking back uphill to Alcoa's property.   David Mazza, Quality Control Supervisor was instrumental in working with the City to establish the road adoption.  After the event, he stated "Hopefully by Alcoa adopting Industrial Boulevard, it will encourage other businesses in the Eastman and Dodge County area to adopt streets or roads near their place of work and help keep Eastman clean."
