Cochran Chamber of Commerce Holds Annual Banquet

The Cochran-Blekckley Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet Thursday evening at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall. 

Highlights of the evening included the presentation of this year's STAR Student and Teacher (Matthew Mays and BCHS English Teacher Nancy Herrington), the presentation of a lifetime achievement award to local businessman Glenn Sawyer, and the instillation of the 2011 Chamber Board of Directors.

On Thursday, January 20 the Eastman-Dodge County Development Authority officially welcomed city officials, county officials, Chamber members, and community members to the new Eastman-Dodge County Welcome Center & Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. 

Judy Hemphill-Madden, President of the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, recognized the foresight of the members of the Development Authority in procuring grant funding for the project, and for turning “an old metal building into a beacon for economic development in Dodge County.”

Officers Selected for Boy Scouts Council in Central Georgia

The following were elected as officers for the Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The Central Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America serves 24 counties and over 5,700 youth.  The Scouting method is used to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development and self-reliance through outdoor education.

“The increase in unemployment and job loss in December is continued evidence that Georgia’s job market is fragile,” said Commissioner Mark Butler, in a Department of Labor news release.

“Sustained improvement will come only when employers begin adding jobs and increase hiring. In the coming months, we will work closely with Georgia’s employers, private and public sector economic developers, and the General Assembly to spur existing business expansion and to attract new industry to our state,”  Butler said.

Middle Georgia College Holds Annual Christmas Luncheon

Middle Georgia College (MGC) held its annual Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 13 in Georgia Hall for faculty, staff, friends and family.

Guests donated unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots.

The MGC Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble performed holiday selections and door prizes were awarded during lunch.
