Emergency/Called Meetings in Dodge

In last-minute actions, it has been announced that Judge Sara Wall has recended her previous stop order against the Dodge County Airport Authority. The Airport Authority immediately put out word for a Special Called meeting today at 2 p.m. at the airport.

Dodge County Commissioners in turn put out notice of an Emergency Called meeting for 12 p.m. today. Immediately upon calling the meeting to order, Commissioners voted to go into executive session.

Eastman Wendy's Restaurant Closes

It’s official- Wendy’s Restaurant in Eastman has closed it’s doors for business. Manager Billy Sharrard confirmed the closure in a telephone interview today.

The Eastman store is a franchise of Wendy’s and not owned by Wendy’s Corporation. The owner was faced with a demand by Corporate Wendy’s to do a major renovation to the building to keep the franchise. The owner decided to close, rather than make the investment.

Alcoa Honored Earth Day by Adopting Industrial Blvd

Eastman, GA, USA, April 22, 2013) - Alcoa calls the period between April 21st and June 21st as GreenWorks because this timeframe includes Earth Day, National Arbor Day and World Environment Day.  The Alcoa Architectural Products facility in Eastman celebrated Earth Day on April 22nd by picking up the trash along the one-mile Industrial Blvd.  This was the first of what will become a quarterly schedule by Alcoa employees to keep Eastman litter free by adopting Industrial Blvd.  City Manager, Bea Edge, City Council Members and Judy Madden, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce attended the dedication along with several Alcoa employees.

Leadership Dodge Attends Local Industry Session

On April 9, 2013, Leadership Dodge attended its session focused on local industry. Ryan Waldrep, Region 9 Project Manager with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, presented an overview of his role in helping communities grow to their full potential by interacting with prospects and sourcing locations for new economic growth in the 17 counties he serves. Waldrep discussed the importance of economic development at the local level, where the importance of teamwork, cooperation, and commitment is as vital as an area’s workforce and infrastructure.

 A tour of Heart of Georgia Metal Crafters, led by Stephen Pritchett, impressed the participants with the products and machinery Metal Crafters utilizes in advanced manufacturing. “The highlight for me was to see the wonderful technology being used in our community, particularly at Metal Crafters.  It was amazing and very informative as to how products that we use are made,” said Dr. Rick Mitchell.
