Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Visits Bleckley Primary | Community Spirit
Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black paid a visit to first grade students at Bleckley Primary School Monday afteroon. Black's visit was part of the Feed My School For A Week program that began Monday at BCPS. Black read The Onion Ambassador, the story of a Vidalia onion named Yumion who traveled around Georgia to experience different parts of the state.
Black also presented Bleckley School Nutrition Director Dr. Kathy Peavy a copy of the book Georgia Grown to be kept at Bleckley Primary for students. Today, and for the rest of the week, lunches at BCPS will have at least one item "Georgia Grown" from a farmer in the area. The Feed My School For A Week program is a collaborative effort between the Department of Agriculture and Department of Education to help schools provide fresh and healthy lunch items for students.
