Cochran Woman Plans 'Streakin' For 'Hooters' Event

Yes, you read it right. There is a group of ladies from Pulaski, Bleckley, Dodge, Houston, Bibb and Twiggs counties who will be going streakin' from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 9, and what a sight that will be.

Streakin' with pink in their hair as they take a stand against breast cancer during breast cancer awareness month.

Crystal Jackson Bambrough, owner and operator of CryStyle's Salon in Cochran, is sponsoring the event for the second year in a row. “We will be putting pink streaks in everyone's hair to celebrate breast cancer awareness month. The streaks cost $10 and the money raised will be donated to a local woman who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, and is in the middle of treatments and surgeries.” There will be light refreshments and other gifts available for purchase, and the first 25 breast cancer survivors will receive a “special little gift.”

Bambrough, who lost her father, in July, to Stage 4 Lymphoma, said, “We started this event last year and raised about $2500, and all the money went to one of our clients, Sandy Morgan.”

She continued, “My sister, at the age of 27, was diagnosed with breast cancer. She went through all of the surgeries and chemo, and the chemo almost killed her a couple of times … thankfully, the Lord pulled her out. She is cancer-free now, but still deals with other physical issues – probably damage from the chemo.

Bambrough said, “I saw what she went through physically, emotionally and financially, so my heart just goes out to those who continue to fight this horrible disease.”

Sandy Morgan, Bambrough's client and friend who received the funding from the event last year, said, “ Crystal really put a lot of effort into the event, and I was so blessed by the proceeds last year.”

Morgan continued, “Breast cancer creates a lot of expenses for the family, and the money that I received from CryStyles' “Streakin' for Hooters” event helped me greatly.”

Though Bambrough is well aware of the other cancers that people are facing, she said, “I would rather have pink all day long than to have breast cancer.” Many women from all of middle Georgia came down for the streakin' day last year and Bambrough hopes the same will happen this year.
