Operation Christmas Child Ongoing at Local Church | Community Spirit
It was a typical Wednesday night at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Cary. There was choir practice, the children's class, and you could hear little ones playing in the nursery. The fellowship hall had youth working on their Christmas play.
In one corner, a volunteer packed items into shoe boxes. It was part of Operation Christmas Child, the outreach program that collects the boxes of toys, school supplies and hygeine items for needy children overseas.
This marks the fourth year Mt. Calvary has been a collection site.
Site coordinator Elaine Bates said that the number of boxes had increased each year. She said several churches in the area would be delivering boxes begining Thursday. Bates said they hoped to exceed the 1300 boxes collected last year.
You can stop by the fellowship hall of Mt. Calvary, located at 134 Abney Road, to deliver your box between now and November 19.
Remaining hours are as follows Thursday-Friday: 4-8 pm. Saturday: 9 am-noon. Sunday: 3-6 pm. Monday: 9 am-noon.
