Royals Win Antebellum Classic Championship | Community Spirit
It was another battle versus Bulldogs in Milledgeville Saturday as Bleckley took on Hancock Central in the Antebellum Classic championship game. BCHS led by as many as nine points in the third quarter before the Bulldogs got to within three. Hancock Central took their first lead with about four mintes left in the game.
A Mario Beck dunk tied the score. The teams exchanged single free throws in the final minute. Beck hit a pair with 22 seconds left to put BC ahead. After apparently stopping the Bulldogs on their next possession, they'd get one more shot. Officials ruled that a Hancock Central player had called a time out with 1.8 seconds left after an ally-oop attempt by the Royals was unsuccessful.
Their last-second shot was well short. The BCHS boys won their second holiday tournament championship in three years 42-40. Beck finished with 15 and was named tournament MVP. Regular season play resumes January 4 at Macon County. Tip time is 7 pm.
