BCHS Sweeps Taylor County | Community Spirit
It was another road night for Bleckley basketball as they traveled Georgia 96 to Butler to take on Taylor County. Both teams looked to keep winning streaks alive.
Tia Troup had 14 first half points and Dewanda Blackshear scored eight in the second as the Lady Royals led 38-25 at halftime. It was down to six by the fourth. TC drew within 47-43 with under five minutes left. BC ended the game on a 15-4 run to win 62-47, their fifth straight. Troup finished with 24. Cam Tillman scored 14.
Tied at 23 after one quarter, both Mario Beck and Ken Hughes picked up their second foul. Rydealous Taylor had six points and D'Andre Pitts scored five to help the Royals to a four-point halftime lead. A Taylor three-point play made it 52-42 in the third. BCHS went the final four minutes without a basket as the Vikings drew within five.
Late in the fourth, Mario Beck's dunk made it 59-55. TC got within two. Bleckley hit five of six free throws in the final two minutes as they made it 17 in a row, 66-59. Taylor scored 30. Beck had 15. Ken Hughes added 11. The win clinches top seed in the upcoming region playoffs. As top boys seed, BCHS will host the boys and girls semifinals and finals February 15.
JV boys tip at 4:15 Friday when Lamar County comes to Cochran. The 2013 Miss Sweetheart will be crowned during halftime of the boys game.
