Danforth Named 2013 Dodge County High School STAR Student | Community Spirit
Zachary William Danforth has been named 2013 PAGE STAR Student for Dodge County High School. The announcement was made January 31, 2013 by Judy Hemphill Madden, president of the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, local sponsor of the Dodge County STAR program. Danforth, the son of Bobby and Sophia Danforth of Eastman, selected Brande Vaughn, Language Arts teacher and DCHS English Department Chair, as his STAR teacher.
The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, in its 55th year, is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation, the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Department of Education. Since its inception, the STAR program has honored more than 23,500 students and teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement. To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the three part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.
STAR begins each year in participating high schools throughout Georgia when the STAR Student is named and chooses a STAR Teacher to share in this recognition. The students and their teachers are honored by their schools and receive special recognition in their communities from local sponsors like the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce. Students then compete for school system titles, and those winners compete for region honors. Region winners compete for the honor of being named State PAGE STAR Student.
“We are very proud of Mr. Danforth and Ms. Vaughn and the academic excellence they exemplify at Dodge County High School,” said Ms. Madden.
"You could not find a more deserving student than Zachary Danforth nor a more deserving teacher than Ms. Vaughn," stated Dodge County High School Principal Susan Long," DCHS is proud of them."
