BCHS crowns Homecoming Queen.

Bleckley County High School senior Ellen Powell has gained noteriety for her running skills having won indvidual championships in both cross country and track.  Friday night, she won a new title, Homecomng Queen.  Powell was crowned the 2015 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the football game between BCHS and Macon County.

Bleckley County Senior Center collecting supplies for SC flood victims.

The Bleckley County Senior center is collecting supplies for flood victims in South Carolina.  Items needed include toiletries and clothing.  The supplies will be delivered this Saturday.  Donations can be dropped off at the center, 165 Peacock Street in Cochran.  For more information, call Anita Purser, (478)934-3223.

Bleckley School System honored at State Capitol.

The Bleckley County School System was honored Wednesday in Atlanta with the Golden Radish Award.  According to a release, the award is "a state-wide farm to school distinction which acknowledges the outstanding leadership of school representatives building comprehensive farm to school programs."

BCHS Senior a National Merit Scholarship Corporation Commended Student.

Bleckley County High School senior Cassidy Fountain was named a Commended Student by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.  She received her Letter of Commendation by principal Dr. Trey Belflower Monday.

Relay For Life held their kickoff event Tuesday evening inside the Presidential Dining Room at Middle Georgia State University.  Team and committee members discussed things like fundraising ideas and upcoming events.  The theme for this year locally is "Knocking cancer off the board."  

There are several things upcoming including a walk a thon being held by local dance team Elite Dancing Diamonds this Saturday from 11 am-3 pm at the old BCHS track behind Bleckley Primary School.  Team members will be walking a minimum of four miles.  They'll raise money through sponsorships.  Also upcoming is a family games basket raffle containing DVD's, board games, and other items for families.  Tickets can be purchased from any realy team or committee member or by emailing bleckey_relayforlife@yahoo.com

Cancer survivors to be recognized before September 18 BCHS home football game.

September 18 will be Bleckley County High School's annual "Pink Out" event in awareness of breast cancer when the Royals host Dublin.  Before the game, a balloon releasing ceremony will be held for the survivors of breast cancer, pancreatic, as well as childhood cancer.  Any survivor or their family member are invited to meet by the player's entrance tunnel on the field at 7:15 pm to participate.

Tribute paid to longtime Bleckley businessman, community supporter.

Last spring, field two at the Cochran Bleckley Recreation Department was named in honor of Ranny Cannon. Cannon, the owner of Cannon Auto Sales, was a supporter of athletics in the community including at the rec. department.  Thursday afternoon, his memory was honored.

Cannon lost his battle to cancer that morning.  Before the evening's baseball and softball games began, a moment of silence was observed.
