Braving the weather to celebrate King's Dream

Bleckley residents braved wind and cold temperatures to attend the annual Martin Luther King Day parade held Monday afternoon.  It was sponsored by the Cochran-Bleckley chapter of the NAACP.  Numerous local churches and community groups were involved, with signs paying tribute to King as decorations.

After the parade, a program was held at House of Grace church.

Pilot Club releases list of Lite A Lite purchasers.

The Pilot Club of Cochran released the list of those who purchased Christmas lights for their Lite A Lite fundraiser. The lights make up the Christmas tree first lit during the December 4 parade held in downtown Cochran.  Proceeds will fund scholarships for Bleckley County High School students.

It looked and felt like Christmas in Cochran Friday night.  The weather was cold and the Pilot Club held their annual Lte A Lite ceremony.  They lit the Christmas tree adorned with lights purchased in honor or memory of someone. Proceeds will go toward the Pilot Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for BCHS seniors.

A little after 7, the annual Christmas Parade began, featuring a variety of churches, businesses, school, and community organizations.  To see photos, click here.

Cochran Bleckley Friends of the Library raises funds to support the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran Bleckley Library.  Tuesday night, the group presented a check to the library at their monthly meeting.  Meetings are held at 6 pm on the last Tuesday of the month at the old high school library on eighth street.

Cochran Lighted Christmas Parade December 4.

The Cochran Lighted Christmas Parade will be December 4 at 7 pm. Lineup will be 5:30 pm at the community house on third street (floats should be in line & ready for judging by then.) Masons will be in charge of placement. Animals must have bags for waste. Candy may not be thrown, but may be handed to spectators. Only one Santa Clause in parade.

All entries must have signs. Cochran church to collect shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will once again be the Bleckley County relay/drop off point for Operation Christmas Child.  OCC is an outreach project done by Samartaian's Purse, an international Christian relief and outreach organization started by Franklin Graham.

OCC delievers shoeboxes of gifts such as toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to children in other countries. During week of November 16-23, donations can be dropped off at Mt. Calvary (128 Abney Road) during relay center open hours.
