Cochran Bleckley Friends of the Library raises funds to support the Tessie W. Norris/Cochran Bleckley Library.  Tuesday night, the group presented a check to the library at their monthly meeting.  Meetings are held at 6 pm on the last Tuesday of the month at the old high school library on eighth street.

Cochran Lighted Christmas Parade December 4.

The Cochran Lighted Christmas Parade will be December 4 at 7 pm. Lineup will be 5:30 pm at the community house on third street (floats should be in line & ready for judging by then.) Masons will be in charge of placement. Animals must have bags for waste. Candy may not be thrown, but may be handed to spectators. Only one Santa Clause in parade.

All entries must have signs. Cochran church to collect shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.

Mt. Calvary Baptist Church will once again be the Bleckley County relay/drop off point for Operation Christmas Child.  OCC is an outreach project done by Samartaian's Purse, an international Christian relief and outreach organization started by Franklin Graham.

OCC delievers shoeboxes of gifts such as toys, school supplies, and hygiene items to children in other countries. During week of November 16-23, donations can be dropped off at Mt. Calvary (128 Abney Road) during relay center open hours.

Bleckley County High School cross country has a reputation for success.  The program has produced many top individual runners including Josh Myers and Ashley Arnold.  Both the boys and girls teams have dominated region this past decade.

Saturday, the Runnin' Royals added a state title to their prestige as the boys finished first in Carrolton.  It was the first team state title for Bleckley in cross country.  Carl Ellis Corley led the way with an individual state title, capping an undefeated season.

The girls also had a good day, finishing eight.  That night, a group of parents and supporters gathered along Second Street for an impromptu welcome home rally.  Escorted by law enforcement, the bus stopped between the courthouse and post office where fans could hug, take pictures of, and congratulate both teams.

Halloween was last Saturday.  But children in Cochran had one more chance to dress up and get candy Friday night at a Trunk or Treat hosted by Bleckley PTO.  Faculty from both the primary and elementary schools decorated their "trunks" in areas at the old high school baseball field with different themes, offering a variety of games and activities.

There a contest awarding the top three "trunks" for both the primary and elementary school.  Each was awarded a cash prize that could be spent on their classroom as they chose.  Proceeds from the night will go to both the primary and elementary schools for expenses such as art supplies and field trips.

Pilot Club of Cochran accepting orders for Lite-a-Lite.

The Pilot Club of Cochran is currently taking orders for Christmas lights.  The lights, that can be purchased via donation in honor or memory of someone, will be on the tree that will be lit December 4 before the annual Christmas parade.  Forms (available here) along with check made payable to Pilot Club of Cochran, can be mailed to 142 Wood Oak Circle, Cochran, GA 31014 before November 16.

BCHS crowns Homecoming Queen.

Bleckley County High School senior Ellen Powell has gained noteriety for her running skills having won indvidual championships in both cross country and track.  Friday night, she won a new title, Homecomng Queen.  Powell was crowned the 2015 Homecoming Queen during halftime of the football game between BCHS and Macon County.
