A big strikeout for "Big A"

To members of the Bleckley Middle School baseball team, he's "Big A."  Otherwise known as Austin Rogers, he's an ardent fan of all the Cochran sports teams.  Royals football, Barons baseball, Knights basketball, Austin supports them all despite being sight disabled and attending Georgia Academy for the Blind in Macon.

Rogers has been a regular in the dugout for the Barons and head coach Phillip Hart for the past few years servingas a manager.  At Saturday's Diamond Day non-region games played in Cochran, Austin got a chance to be involved.

Leading 10-1 in the seventh against Trinity, Hart made a pitching change.  Rogers came in, threw some warmups, then faced a batter.  Showing a form that'd make upcomig Hall of Famer Gred Maddux proud, Austin struck him out on three pitches.  He got a loud ovation from fans and congratulations from the home plate umpire.

Rapper Young Jeezy posted bail late Tuesday after being arrested in Alpharetta Tuesday.

Jeezy, a Hawkinsville native, whose real name is Jay Wayne Jenkins, was picked up on charges of misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement. He bonded out of jail before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Laurens Co. Man Charged in Shooting Death

Laurens County deputies arrested a 22-year-old man charging him with the shooting death of Mike Whittle.

Whittle, 51, was shot to death Thursday morning at about 6 a.m., about 15 feet from the front door of his trailer on Howard Road near the Laurens-Dodge County line.

Jesse Rowland was arrested by deputies and state troopers a couple of hours later, according to a sheriff's office news release. He is being held in the Laurens County jail.

According to family, Whittle has just turned 51 on Wednesday and they had dinner for his birthday.  They say they didn't noticed anything wrong until they got the call the next morning.

Whittle's son Andrew says he was able to track down Rowland and block him from getting away by hitting his car. He then called 911 and held Rowland until deputies arrested him around 8:15 a.m.

Whittle's father says investigators have taken his body to the crime lab in Atlanta.

Former Wheeler DFCS Office Director Pleads Guilty to Racketeering

Former Wheeler County and Telfair County DFCS Office Director pleaded guilty to racketeering.

While working for the DFCS offices in Telfair and Wheeler counties, Valaree Dubberly opened Walmart business credit card accounts for DFCS and charged thousands of dollars for herself, according to the Office of the Attorney General.

She allegedly stole about $10,959.50 from the state through her scheme of opening the credit cards, then using the credit cards to purchase gift cards that she then used for personal purchases.

Dubberly was the office director in Telfair from 1990-2008 as well as the director in the Wheeler County office from 2007-2008, before they terminated her.

She has been sentenced to five years of probation, 250 hours community service, a $1,000 fine and restitution of $1,838. 

She had already surrendered the rest of the money before her guilty plea.

Cochran Police Search for Two Robbers

Cochran police are searching for two men who allegedly robbed a convenience store Tuesday night.

Two men robbed a Flash Food Mart on Second Street around midnight, Cochran Police Chief Key McGuire says.

Investigators say both robbers were armed when they came into the store and demanded money.

The GBI is helping with the investigation.

Dodge Co. Murder Victim ID'd, Two Suspects in Jail

The Bleckley County Sheriff's Office has identified the victim of an apparent homicide.

They say Dazmon Sanders, 33, died after he was shot, according to a release.

His body was found on Cook Road near the Dodge County line, a day after he was reported missing.

Police believe he was shot while being robbed.

Magic "Deonte" Fuller, 18, and Printess Stanley, 25, are in jail, charged with felony murder. They're being held without bond.

Sanders was originally from Cochran but had most recently been living in Atlanta. The Georgia Department of Corrections website says he'd been convicted of drug charges five times since 1997 and served four prison terms.

More charges are pending and the GBI and the Bleckley Sheriff's department continues to investigate.

Man Now in Custody for Murder in Bleckley County

The Bleckley County Sheriff's Office says they now have a murder suspect in custody.

Katie Yearty of the sheriff's department said he was arrested Friday and is now in the county jail.

He's 18-year-old Magic Fuller.

The sheriff's office says he's a suspect in the death of a man from the Atlanta area found Monday in Dodge County.

The sheriff says Fuller is 6-foot-1, 150 pounds.

He's got removable gold plate teeth and tattoos.

He also goes by the name Deonte Fuller.

The sheriff says Fuller is armed and dangerous.

So far, the sheriff has not released the name of the victim.

He says they're waiting for the GBI crime lab to confirm his identity.

A second suspect in the killing is already in custody, but his name has also not been released.
