Cochran-Bleckley Friends Of The Library to Host Tina Whittle Reading, Signing

The Cochran-Bleckley Friends Of The Library will host mystery author Tina Whittle for a reading and signing on June 26 in the Tessie W Norris Library conference room at 7 pm.  According to her website bio, Whittle has written two novels The Dangerous Edge of Things and Darker Than Any Shadow, the second in the series.  It was described as a "tight, suspensful debut" by Publisher's Weekly.

Whittle is a current nominee for Georgia Author of the Year.  Her short fiction has appeared in The Savannah Literary Journal, Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, and Gulf Stream.  To learn more about Whittle, visit her official website.

Dodge County Sheriff : Every Jail Isn't the Same

For more than a decade, some say, there has been tug-of-war competition going on between the governing officials of Dodge County and the sheriff's office.

Some say there hasn't.

A new jail to house the prisoners in Dodge County has been needed for at least 20 or more years, though plans didn't begin to be implemented until two administrations ago leaders say. The old jail, located on the lot of the Dodge County Courthouse directly next to a local daycare center, is feasible, but not for long - with holes in the walls, leaky ceilings and security risks all around.

Harness Festival Set This Weekend in Hawkinsville

The  39th annual Hawkinsville Harness Festival will be April 20-21. Admission Friday is free, and the night begins with food, concert by the Big Daddy Band and fireworks. Saturday events begin at 11a.m.  Saturday night, the 50s, 60s and 70s band, the Grapevine will make its initial appearance at the Hawkinsville Opera House.

The parade of queens will begin at noon followed by the opening ceremonies and then the harness racing at 1p.m. Admission for Saturday is $5.00. Children 5-years and under are admitted free. For more on the story, click here.

13 Pound Bass Caught in Ocmulgee Public Fishing Area

A 13 lb., 4 oz largemouth bass was recently caught and released back into the lake during survey work, a Georgia Department of Natural Resources news release says.

Big bass catches are being reported on a regular basis at this public fishing area in Bleckley and Pulaski counties this season.

7th Annual Rescue Day to Feature Fun for Families and Pets

 

Fifteen animal rescue groups from around the Middle Georgia area are gathering together April 21 for the Seventh Annual Rescue Day at Tractor Supply Company in Byron, a Save a Pet news release says.

Along with the rescue groups, others are joining them to help get pets adopted, keeping your pet health and well trained, and sharing fun activities to do with your dog.

Along with pet adoptions, there will be a vaccination clinic, children’s fun dog show, pony rides, dog training demonstrations, dog cart demonstrations and rides and information about involved in pet therapy.
