Eastman 2nd Annual Out of the Darkness Race

The 2nd Annual Out of the Darkness race benefiting Wellspring Living in Atlanta was held in Eastman this morning. Wellspring is a non-profit organization that helps restore women and young girls who have been rescued from sexual trafficking in the state of GA.

Georgia Sex Trafficking Statistics:

Current research commissioned by the Governor’s Office for Children & Families shows that more than 400 adolescent girls are being exploited on the streets, through escort services, by perpetrators at major hotels, and online (AFNAP Provider Project)
90% of exploited children are under the control of a pimp (AFNAP Provider Project)
Children who have been sexually abused are 28 times more likely to be arrested for prostitution at some point in their lives. It also has been found that the majority of girls and adult women who engage in prostitution have a history of sexual abuse in their childhood (AFNAP Provider Project)
12,400 men each month in Georgia pay for sex with a young female, 7,200 of whom end up exploiting an adolescent female (The Demand Study)
National Human Trafficking Hotline has reported calls from Helena, Baxley, Dexter, Macon & Perry in 2012.
