Cochran Community Blood Drive May 30

There will be a community blood drive at the County Extension Office May 30 from 2-7 pm.  Those donating will be registered in a drawing for two pair of roundtrip airline tickets from Delta Airlines.  The Extension Office is located at 165 Peacock Street.

Bleckley FFA Wildlife Camp June 14-17

The Bleckley FFA will offer a wildlife day camp for students in grades 3-5 June 14-17.  Cost is $150 and includes camp supplies, lunch, snack, T-shirt, transportation, and admission to the Raptor Center in Roswell. 

Camp will run from 10 am to 3 pm each day except Friday.  Attendance is limited to first 25 students who register and pay $50 deposit.  Remainder is due the first day of camp.  Checks should be made out to Bleckley FFA.

Craig Young Baseball Camp in June

The 2011 Craig Young Baseball Camp will be held at Stuckey Field in June.   The Mini Warrior Camp will be June 6-9 and is for ages 4-7.  It will run from 5-8 pm.  The regular camp is for ages 8-15. 

 There are two dates June 6-9 or June 20-23 and will run from 9 am to 4 pm.  Cost is $75 for Mini Warrior Camp, $125 for the regular camp.  Cost includes lunch and snacks as well as T-shirt.  Campers 8-15 will swim at the MGC pool. 

Instructors for the camp include: MGC head baseball coach Craig Young, MGC Pitching Coach Christian Castori, MGC Hitting and Outfield Coach (and member of 1995 National Championship Team) Todd Hogan, West Laurens High School Baseball Coach Brian Brown, and Bleckley County Middle School Baseball Coach Phillip Hart.

Freedom Fest Fireworks Show Fund Raiser Begins in Eastman

Support the Freedom Fest Fireworks Show in Eastman beginnig Monday, May 16, 2011 by purchasing a patriotic bow for your home, mailbox, or car.

The fireworks show occurs annually in Eastman, and is sponsored by the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, City of Eastman, and Dodge County. 

In an effort to grow the fireworks show, the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Comemrce will host a bow sale.  Bows are available in two sizes, and can be purchased at Marketplace, Martha Sheldon Florist, Piddlin' Peddler, and the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce.

Cochran Masonic Lodge Pancake Breakfast May 21.

Cochran Masonic Lodge #217 F&AM will have a pancake breakfast May 21 from 7-10 am at the lodge.  Cost is $5 for all you can eat pancakes, sausage, orange juice, tea, and coffee.  Uniformed Law Enforcement Officers and Emergency Personel dine in for free.  Proceeds benefit the Joe Lassiter Secret Santa Fund which provides Christmas to local families.  The Masonic Lodge is located at 217 Masonic Drive.

One man with many voices to raise funds for ABC Women's Clinic.

BJ Thomas was at the Cochran City Auditorium Friday night.  So was Lionel Richie, Garth Brooks, and even Kenny Rogers.   Well, not exactly.  Michael Kelly did use those voices and many more in a benefit for the ABC Women's Clinic.  Kelly is a vocal impressionist and will perform songs in the voice of the original artist.  He used those many voices in a benefit for the ABC Women's Clinic mobile unit.  The mobile unit is an RV that travels to Cochran  and  provides free Christian-based pregnancy services to women including  pregnancy tests, sonograms, and counseling.

Cochran Masonic Lodge and Pilot Club to have GACHIP ID Program.

Cochran Masonic Lodge #27 F&AM and the Pilot Club of Bleckley County will conduct a GACHIP Child ID program at the Bleckey County Learning Center (pre-k) and Bleckley Primary School May 18 and 19.
