Cochran-Bleckley Rec. Department to Host Town Hall Meeting

The Cochran-Bleckley Recreation Department will host a town hall meeting April 13 at 6 p.m. in the city auditorium. 

The meeting is an opportunity for the community to meet newly hired Recreation Director Tony Fountain. 

Questions will be welcomed.

Community Music Performance Features Music Therapy Students

Music in Motion, the Harmonettes Handbell Choir, the Jungle Royales, Circular Motion and Good Vibrations are five of the groups that, with the help of the Music Therapy students of Georgia College and State University, will perform original songs such as “Giddy-up Gangsta” and “Head for the Mountains” in a free concert.

That's according to a Creative Expression Studio news release.

A special solo piano performance by Shawn Greene, organizer of the local 5K Greene Mile Race will also be a highlight of the evening.

"All About Us" is a musical concert featuring original songs written by performers with disabilities from the Life Enrichment Center and the music therapy students at Georgia College & State University. 

 

The event will be held on Thursday, April 19th at 10 a.m. at the Goldstein Center on the Georgia Military College campus.

There will be a Tribute to Elvis at the Hawkinsville Opera House Saturday starting at 7 p.m.

Bleckley County Cenntenial BBQ Contest

Bleckley County Cenntenial BBQ Contest

As part of the Centennial Celebration of Bleckley County, a Bar-B-Que Contest will be held on May 12 as part of the Centennial Kickoff.  Items will be judged as well as sold for lunch during the day.  Lunch will be sold begining at 11:30 am, with judging to start at 1:30 pm.  Water and electricity will be provided, contestants are responsible for disposal of cooking by products.  Meat must be kept raw, unseasoned and at 40 degrees or lower prior to marinating or cooking.  Cooking temperature must be 140 degrees or warmer. 

Points will be awarded on appearance, tenderness, taste, and overall impression.  First through third place teams will receive trophies.  Overall winners will also be announced.  Cash prizes are as follows First place: $500, Second: $250, Third: $100.  A "People's Choice" award will be given based upon customer purchases.  Winners will be announced at 4 pm.

Bleckley Relay For Life Grilled Chicken Plate Sale

The Bleckley Relay For Life Committee Team, Piggly Wiggly Team, and Middle Georgia College Team Sodexho will have a grilled chicken plate sale April 13 from 11:30 a.m.-until in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot. 

Plates are $6 and will include grilled chicken, green beans, potato salad, and bread.  To purchase tickets or for more information, call Linda Warren at 478-230-4162.
