Cochran Flies Christian Flag, Mayor says, "We represent God all the time"

Cochran Flies Christian Flag, Mayor says, "We represent God all the time"

In a society where even the words, “Christianity,” “God” or a head bowed in prayer can create a media frenzy equal to a category five tornado, the rural community of Cochran threw caution to the wind, and raised the Christian flag March 20 in front of the Cochran City Hall. The ceremony was quiet, brief, but memorable.

Cochran Mayor Willie Basby said, “We're not just to represent God at church, we should represent Him all the time, not just on Sundays,” or he said at religious events. The flag will be flown through the end of the town's annual Bible Reading Marathon in May.

Fried Moon-Pies, Fritters and More Out in the boonies of Montrose

Fried Moon-Pies, Fritters and More Out in the boonies of Montrose

It is out in the boonies, and unless you know you are going there, you might miss it - well, maybe not - it is the only Southern-style home with an old stage coach house and Gypsy Vanner horses for miles around.

They'll make you anything you want - steaks, fish, shrimp, a Fried Goober - yes, a Fried Goober (a double decker peanut butter and jelly sandwich), Fried Moon-Pies, and they will serve them with an R.C. and of course, an endless supply of fritters.

Fritters at Saje Plantation in Montrose, Georgia is the diamond in the rough - a treasure in the middle of farmland and acres of field on the road between Cochran and Dublin, and it would be well worth the trip for a visit or two.
