Local Church Draws Hundreds for Easter Celebration

Local Church Draws Hundreds for Easter Celebration

Friday night, New Life Church of God had its Easter celebration entitled "Under The Lights."

According to church members and head pastor Ryan Karnes, this year's event was scaled back in terms of promotion.  Because they'd been literally overrun with people the past two years (two years ago the church had an Easter Egg drop from a helicopter that attracted thousands.)  Though scaled back, hundreds still came out for what was a free evening of fun.

The church had carnival games like pick up ducks, a rock wall, bounce house and giant slide.  Funnel cakes and popcorn were available to snack on, and they also provided a hot dog dinner.  An Easter Egg hunt for kids up to 12 years old capped the evening's festivities.  When asked about being able to put on such an event, Karnes said "God's really blessed us."

Rev-Up for Little Ones Motorcycle Charity Ride Set

The 2nd Annual Rev-Up for Little Ones Motorcycle Charity Ride will be held May 7 at the Flint Energies office at 900 GA Hwy 96 in Warner Robins.

“Rev-up and ride in support of local children in need of a bright Christmas, and enjoy a fun ride through the beautiful Middle Georgia area with stops in Byron, Montezuma and Hawkinsville,” said organizer and Flint employee Ed Hawkins.” This motorcycle ride raises funds for Linemen for Little Ones and Food for the Needy and is the first community-involved fundraiser for these charities. More than $25,000 has been raised through internal fundraisers since the start of the toy charity in 2006.”

Linemen for Little Ones and Food for the Needy benefits disadvantaged families at Christmas. Flint Energies employees developed these charities out of concern for those they serve. Food boxes and toys are donated to internally selected families in need each December.

While standing on the pavilon near her home Monday, Bleckley Elementary teacher Mi Waters spoke of human compassion.  That's really how a party/rally for Sara-Beth Martin came about.

Martin, a nine-year old student at Bleckley Elementary faces heart surgery Thursday at Egleston Children's Hospital.  She has Microvale Aortic Valve Stynosis.  Martin had surgery on June 12 of last year to repair the valve, but the repairs haven't held.  Thursday's surgery will replace the valve.  She and brother Michael have both had liver transplants in 2005 and 2006 as both were diagnosed with Alagille Syndrome.

Waters said she didn't know Martin nor her mom Becky that well.  Sara-Beth is in third grade as is Waters' son Carson.  Waters said she was so moved by mom Becky's account of how stressed Sara-Beth was because she had to be alone due to to her health, she wanted to help.  So with some friends, Waters began planning t
