Reschedule Dates for BCHS Drama Department show, High School Basketball Game

The BCHS Drama Department show "Broadway Best's" originally scheduled for January 10 has been moved to January 27. 

Start time is 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. 

The Bleckley-East Laurens High School basketball game scheduled for January 11 has been moved to Febuary 12 at East Laurens.

Fifth Annual Biking Bleckley Metric 100 Febuary 26

The Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce will host the Fifth Annual Biking Bleckley on Febuary 26. 

The event is designed for families as well as both new and experienced cyclcists. 

Routes will go through southern country roads of Bleckley and surrounding counties. 

Routes of 15, 30, 50, and 62 miles are available. 

All routes are supported with maps, SAG's, and refreshment breaks. 

Registration is $25 before Febuary 16, $30 after February 16..  Registration before Febuary 16 guarantees a T-shirt. 

All fees are non-refundable.

Rides begin at 8:30 a.m. from the parking lot of the Cochran-Bleckley Chamber of Commerce. 

The Biking Bleckley Cycling club cordinates the event.

Dodge Arts Guild Releases Magnolia Music & Medicine Show Schedule

The Dodge Arts Guild recently released a partial schedule of 2011 events for the Magnolia Music and Medicine Show.

On Saturday, January 15, the Magnolia Music and Medicine Show will highlight the talents of The Black Lillies. Born in the rumbling cab of a stone truck and aged in the oak of Tennessee’s smoky night haunts, The Black Lillies have come to the forefront of the Americana scene in little more than a year.

Young and Miss Harness Festival Pageant

The Harness Festival Pageant will take place on February 5.

The Young Miss and Miss Harness Festival Pageant is for contestants from two years old through 12th grade.

Age divisions are as follows:

Teeny Miss: 2-3 years old
Toddler Miss: 4-5 years old
Tiny Miss: 6 years old through 1st grade
Little Miss: 2-3rd grade

Petite Miss: 4-5th grade
Junior Miss: 6-7th grade
Young Miss: 8-9th grade
Miss: 10-12th grade

The entry fee is $50 and the entry deadline is January 21.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Hawkinsville Opera House. Age divisions 2 years through 3rd grade will be at 1 p.m. and 4th grade through 12th grade will take place at 7 p.m.

BCHS Drama Department to Present Broadway-themed Show

The Bleckley County High School Drama Department will present "Broadway Bests" on January 10 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. 

It will feature music from shows such as Cats, Wicked and All That Jazz. 

Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for students.  Proceeds from the show will go toward equipment purchases for the drama department.

Christmas Tree Recycling Event

Trees will be accepted this year between Dec. 28 and Jan. 14, 2011.

This event is made possible through a partnership with the City of Hawkinsville and McGalliard Waste Services.

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 28 used live Christmas trees can be dropped of into the bins marked for tree recycling at two convenient locations; Fred's parking lot and also on the corner of Broad Street and Veteran's Parkway next to Veteran's Park.

Please remove all decorations and stands that could damage the wood chipper.

Trees will also be accepted at the city landfill during the regular business hours of 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. except on the city holiday, Friday, January 31. The city facility is located on Anderson Gift Church Road.

The tree mulch will be available for anyone who would like to request it.
