Magnolia Music & Medicine Show Schedules Performances for 2011

The Dodge Arts Guild released a schedule of 2011 events for the Magnolia Music and Medicine Show.

Sept. 17  Special guest to be announced

Dec. 10   Special guest to be announced

Tickets are $10, and can be purchased from any Dodge Arts Guild member, from the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce, and at the door prior to showtime.

Career Fair for High School Students

Area high school sophomores will participate in a career fair Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at the Agricenter in Perry. 

The 15th annual Dr. Maxx Career Fair Scavenger Hunt will take place in the McGill Marketplace building from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m, a Houston County Board of Education news release says.

Approximately 1,000 students from Houston, Dooly, Peach and Pulaski counties will attend. 

The purpose of the event is to help students plan for their future. 

The career fair will inform them about job opportunities and the requirements for different occupations, providing insight into a variety of careers.

Former Royal Singers to Perform at High School Auditorium

A "Where Are They Now" concert featuring former Royal Singers who have gone on to excel in music will be held at the BCHS auditorium Febuary 5.  Show time is 7 p.m.  Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for students.

Bleckley Students Named to Honor Band

Eleven Bleckley middle and high school students were selected through audition to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association Eleventh District Honor Band. 

They competed against students in both public and private schools from all classifications. 

Students selected will participate in the District Honor Band event held at Baldwin County High School on February 11 & 12. 

Honor Band members are:  Geena Smith, Elizabeth Thompson, Alondria Clemons,  Hannah DeLoach,  Kelby Dykes,  Kaitlan Allen, Amber Burton, Clarinet,  Justin Bates, Baritone Saxophone, Jasmin Allen, Ronald Leek, Euphonium, Zack Songer.

Smith, Thompson, DeLoach, and Dykes were also selected to participate in the South Georgia Region Honor Band held at Valdosta State University, April 14-16.

Then pack it up and join us as a vendor at Georgia’s longest yard sale in March. The “Peaches to the Beaches Yard Sale,” will take place March 11-12 along US Highway 341, the Golden Isles Parkway. The 240-mile yard sale will link peach-growing counties in middle Georgia to the beaches of the Golden Isles, with stops in nearly 19 communities along the way.

Ben Altman to Perform Classical Guitar

Ben Altman to Perform Classical Guitar

The Middle Georgia College Division of Humanities presents Ben Altman on classical guitar.

Altman will perform on Tuesday, February 15 at 7:30 p.m.

Altman is a classical guitarist who studied at the Eastman School of Music and maintains a private studio in Denver, Co. He is also a member of the Colorado Guitar Quartet, and Magpie, a trio with flute and cello.

The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will take place at Russell Hall Theatre on Middle Georgia College's campus.

Middle Georgia Talent Search Accepts Registration

The Middle Georgia Talent Search to be hosted by the Hawkinsville-Pulaski Arts Council, Inc. in March is accepting registration entries.

The registration deadline for performers is February 18.

The registration fee is $25.

The performances are March 5 and 12 at 7 p.m.

The first place winner will receive $500, the second place winner will receive $300 and the third place winner will receive $200.
