Christmas Tree Recycling Event

Trees will be accepted this year between Dec. 28 and Jan. 14, 2011.

This event is made possible through a partnership with the City of Hawkinsville and McGalliard Waste Services.

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 28 used live Christmas trees can be dropped of into the bins marked for tree recycling at two convenient locations; Fred's parking lot and also on the corner of Broad Street and Veteran's Parkway next to Veteran's Park.

Please remove all decorations and stands that could damage the wood chipper.

Trees will also be accepted at the city landfill during the regular business hours of 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. except on the city holiday, Friday, January 31. The city facility is located on Anderson Gift Church Road.

The tree mulch will be available for anyone who would like to request it.

From Dec. 19 through Dec. 25, the Trapp Family Christmas lights are on display.

Sunday Dec. 19 through Thursday Dec. 23 the event is open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday Dec. 24 and Saturday Dec. 25 the event is open from 6 p.m. to midnight.

Santa Claus is on site from 7 until 9 p.m.

The Tripp Family Christmas Lights are located at 63 Macedonia Church Road in Cochran.

The Tripp Family Christmas Lights is a 13WMAZ's 2008 Festive Yards Sweepstakes winner.

Tickets Available for Magnolia Music & Medicine Show

Tickets for the January 15, 2011 Magnolia Music & Medicine Show featuring the Black Lillies are now available at the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce.

The Magnolia Music and Medicine Show is a production of the Dodge Arts Guild and offers family-friendly entertainment styled after an old time radio broadcast based around a traveling medicine show.

Each production features segments including featured guest artists, local talent, a culinary segment, comedy, and a big dose of fun. 

The Dodge Arts Guild is a nonprofit organization, established to promote the Arts in Dodge County.  To further this end, the Guild is an active sponsor of cultural events, a venue provider, and an educational extension of the school system.

Middle Georgia College Holds Annual Christmas Luncheon

Middle Georgia College (MGC) held its annual Christmas Luncheon on Dec. 13 in Georgia Hall for faculty, staff, friends and family.

Guests donated unwrapped toys to Toys for Tots.

The MGC Jazz Band and Percussion Ensemble performed holiday selections and door prizes were awarded during lunch.

BCHS Continues Early Hot Streak

Tia Troup had 14 points, and was one of three Lady Royals in double figures as Bleckley routed Twiggs County 77-8 at home Tuesday. 

Raykel Anderson's 15 points was one of five Royal players in double figures as the boys completed the sweep with an 80-25 victory.

Bleckley plays at Hawkinsville Friday.  Both JV teams will play with the girls game starting at 4 p.m.  Varsity action starts at 7 p.m.

Christmas Events at Cochran First United Methodist Church

Cohran First United Methodist Church will have its Christmas Cantana on Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. 

The church will have a Christmas Eve Communion Service on Friday, Dec. 24 at 5:30 p.m.

Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra to Perform at the Opera House

The Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Hawkinsville Opera House on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.

The orchestra will perform pieces such as Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite," Anderson's "Sleigh Ride" and Willcock's "Christmas Carols for Choir and Orchestra."

Tickets are $30 each.
