The Relay does go on: Bleckley Relay for Life held.

The Relay does go on: Bleckley Relay for Life held.

With gas and food prices high, fundraising of any kind is difficult.  Even for the American Cancer Society.  This year's Relay for Life held at Middle Georgia College's NeSmith Soccer Field was somewhat smaller in terms of participation and money raised.  But it didn't stop the hundreds who did attend from continuing the Relay's purpose of "Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back."

This year's theme was "Cancer doesn't take a holiday."  Team campsite were decorated in holiday themes ranging from the Fourth of July to Cinco De Mayo.  Each had food and other entertainment options.  For most of the night, participants celebrated the survivors.  When the lights began to fade, and luminary bags lit up around the track, it was time to remember.  A solemn luminary ceremony paid tribute to those who have survived as well as those who lost the fight against cancer.

BCMS Holds Spring Fling Festival

BCMS Holds Spring Fling Festival

The new Bleckley Middle School was a busy place Friday night as it hosted a festival entitled "Spring Fling."

In past years, the festival, which serves as a school fundraiser, had been held in the fall.

Attendees could chow down on hamburgers, play bingo, take a whack at a car bash, and other fun events.

Hundreds of people came, walked for cakes, took rides on the giant slide, and generally had a great time.

Shimmy Mob in Atlanta

"Sunday May 1st at 12pm Perry Bellydance along with belly dancers from all over Middle Georgia will be participating in a belly dance flash mob at Atlantic Station in Atlanta.  The Atlanta event is part of a much larger event in which dancers from all over the US, Canada as well as Vietnam and Italy will be doing the exact same choreography flash mob style to raise funds for Women and Children’s shelters. The choreography was provided by the coordinators of the event and depending on their location dancers have either learned the dance on their own or have gotten together with a participating instructor and learned with a group.

Saturday participating dancers from Perry, Macon and Warner Robins will gather at Perry Bellydance and join the other dancers from Middle Georgia and Tennessee with team leader Lacy Perry via skype to have one last practice and discuss logistics
