Turner Chapel AME Church holding "gospel explosion" June 30.

Turner Chapel AME Church located at 163 N Seventh Street in Cochran will hold a gospel explosion event June 30 at 5 pm.  Featuring local and area performers, it's also a fundraiser for the church building fund.  Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.  Admission includes entry into a raffle for a 32-inch flat screen TV.  Refreshments served.  Purchase tickets by calling (478)397-4797.

At around 5:15 pm, turnout at Monday afternoon's Red Cross Blood Drive in Cochran was described as "slow." However, as the afternoon wore on, others came to donate. The Red Cross is always in need of blood. O Negative is especially needed after lower than expected donations the last couple of months. The next drive will be August 19.

Bleckley Health Department hosting Emergency Preparedness Drill June 21.

The Bleckley County Health Department will host an emergency preparedness drill June 21 at Heartland EMS, 256 Lucas Road, from 10 am-1 pm.  Designed to simulate an emergency situation, residents can drive through, hand over head of household forms (available here) that will include medical information for all people in the household.  They'll receive more information and bottles of water.

Turner Chapel AME Church celebrating 155th anniversary June 23

Turner Chapel AME Church will celebrate their 155th anniversary June 23 at 2:30 pm.  The theme is "Running the Race with patience" Hebrews 12:1-2.  Guest speaker will be Rev. Lewis Toles, pastor of Lizzie Bloomer and St. Paul Baptist Churches.  The church is located at 163 N. Seventh Street in Cochran.

Red Cross Blood Drive June 17.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in the main room of the Bleckley County Extension Office, 165 E. Peacock Street, June 17 from 2-7 pm.  Officials say there is a critical need for "O Negative" blood because of lower than expected donations last month.  Schedule your appointment online by going to redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code "Cochran."  Save up to 15 minutes the day of your appointment bygoing to redcrossblood.org/rapidpass and completing your pre-donation reading and health history questionaire.

One of the parts of Vacation Bible School is learning songs for parent's night.  Ruth Baptist Church is doing The Incredible Race as their theme.  Kids would head inside the sanctuary to practice songs with the assistance of a video playing overhead.  Ruth's final night will be June 6.

Journey to the Jungle of Nool with Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp.

Bleckley Summer Theatre Camp will perform Seussical, Jr, June 7-9 at House of Grace Church, 133 Jac Arts Road in Cochran.  Showtimes are 7 pm Friday, 12:30 and 7 pm Saturday, 2 pm Sunday.  Admission is $5 adults, $3 students.
