Dodge JROTC Begins New Tradition

Dodge JROTC Begins New Tradition

EASTMAN, GA.--The Dodge County High School Army JROTC Battalion has been an integral part of the high school and community.

At every major local sporting event and parade, the JROTC has represented the pride of the Indians since 1984. Early in the program’s history JROTC Cadets were awarded letter jackets for various activities within the program. Over the years, this practice has since ended.

This year the cadre has instituted a new tradition allowing cadets to purchase a specially designed letter jacket.

The new jacket was designed by the cadets and represents the traditional red and white colors of Dodge County High School. On both shoulders, a black stripe was inserted to honor the thousands of Americans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice as members of the United States Military.

The letter is distinguished from the Athletic Varsity letter by the acronym “JROTC” embroidered inside the letter.

Bleckley County dog is not typical

Bleckley County dog is not typical

Roger Caras once said, “Dogs are not our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.”

And there is a family in Bleckley County who would agree, and after you hear the story of their canine, you will agree too.

Buddy weighs less than 10 pounds, but more than five. His coat is white and curly – almost reminiscent of the afro style made popular by the Jackson 5 in the 1970s.

And the Bichon Frise – a fancy term for a version of a poodle is a life-saving dog – hence the reason for this tribute.

His story began on April 1, 2008. Though his life really began in September 2009.
