Local Coach Honored with TARLAVSKY-PRICE YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD

The Greer Foundation today announced it has awarded the TARLAVSKY-PRICE YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD, an honor offered in recognition of exceptional service to youth in memory of two fallen warriors, to Jason Griner. Coach Griner, the leader and driving force behind the South Georgia Athletic Club’s wrestling program, has coached and mentored thousands of youth wrestlers spanning more than 10 years.

His incredible dedication to the sport of wrestling, as well his wrestlers, keeps him on the road traveling to tournaments north of Atlanta throughout the winter months. During the summer,

he travels with his wrestlers to national level tournaments as far as Iowa and North Dakota. Jason’s commitment to the sport and his team cannot be overstated. Through his direct efforts, Valdosta has enjoyed several state champions as well as national champions selected for the USA National Junior Freestyle and Greco Roman teams.

CASA Daddy-Daughter Dance a Magical Success

EASTMAN, GA.-- The 3rd Annual CASA Daddy-Daughter Dance was held, Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Terry L. Coleman Conference Center in Eastman.  Hundreds of dapper fathers enjoyed a delightful evening of dancing, food, and fun with their lovely daughters to benefit TLC Children’s Services and The Oconee Clubhouse Visitation Services Program, which serves local children in the Oconee Judicial Circuit. 

TLC CASA provides legal advocacy for children involved in juvenile deprivation proceedings by investigating and providing factual, unbiased reports and recommendations to the juvenile court judge as to the best interests of the children. Oconee Clubhouse Visitation Services Program provides supervised visitation services during the child’s stay in foster care. All proceeds raised during the Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance helps provide snacks, transportation, and other support services for the visitation program.

The 29-year-old single Zaresky moved to Bleckley County around six years ago.

And “ I saw the hundreds of animals here and in surrounding areas being put down without having the first opportunity of a chance.”

Biking Bleckley Metric 100 Date Set

The annual Biking Bleckley Metric 100 will be February 25 starting at 8:30 am behind the Chamber of Commerce on Third Street. 

The annual biking event will have four route choices (15, 30, 52. 62.5 miles) or participants can take the entire 100. 

Routes will be well-marked complete with rest stops. 

The stops will have food and drink as well as restrooms. 

Law enforcement and emergency vehicles will patrol routes. 

Cost is $25 and includes T-shirt.

Bleckley County 100 year stories sought

Bleckley County is celebrating its 100 year birthday this year, and there are so many stories about the people in the community that have yet to be told or might need to be revisited.

If you or someone you know has been a resident of Bleckley County 25 years to 100 years and has a historical tale to share or an interesting hobby or has had some impact on Bleckley County in the 100 year span, i.e. as a volunteer, a teacher, a preacher, a law official, a bus driver, etc, e-mail rlhg4@bellsouth.net or becky@pipsconsulting.com.
