Upcoming Concert, Homecoming at Local Church

Contemperary Gospel group OMEGA will be in concert March 27 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church for the evening service beginning at 6 pm.  

Mount Calvary will celebrate Homecoming April 10 with service at 11 a.m. and lunch to follow on the church grounds. 

Mount Calvary Baptist is located at 134 Abney Rd.

Community Blood Drive

A community blood drive will take place in Cochran on Monday, March 28.

The blood drive is from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Extension Office Main Room.

Harry Bruno tells us that extreme weather conditions in the north and west, blood is at an all time low and your blood is needed.  

Bruno says, "Remember 1 pint of blood can save 3 lives."

Cochran-Bleckley United Givers Fund presents "Thanksgiving in April"

Enjoy "Thanksgiving in April" by purchasing a turkey and dressing plate from the Cochran-Bleckley United Givers Fund. 

Cost is a $7 donation with proceeds benefitting the fund. 

Plates can be picked up April 3 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. 

Tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce Office located on Second Street.

Census Data: What You Expected?

The United States Census data from 2010 was released Thursday. Bleckley, Dodge and Pulaski counties grew in population size.

Bleckley County grew 12 percent from 11,666 folks to 13,063.

Dodge County grew 14 percent. In 2000, 19,171 people were counted in the census. In 2010's census, 21,796 people were counted.

Pulaski County grew by 25 percent: from a population of 9,588  in 2000 to 12,010 in 2010.

Church Holds Preschool Registration

First Baptist Church will have its registration for the 2011-2012 Weekday Preschool Program on Wednesday, March 23 at 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m. in the church preschool classroom at First Baptist Church.

First Baptist Church is located at 101 S. Second St. in Cochran.

Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra to present concerts of "Pure Pleasure"

Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra to present concerts of "Pure Pleasure"

The Ocmulgee Symphony Orchestra (OSO) will be in concert February 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hawkinsville Opera House and will perform February 27 at 3:30 p.m. at Wesleyan College. 

It will be the fourth concert series of the season for the OSO entitled "Pure Pleasure."  Maestro Adrian Gnam, conductor laureate  of the Macon Sympthony Orechstra, will conduct the performances. 

Said OSO founder, artistic director, and conductor Dr. Charles Quinn in a news release  “The combination of these pieces are simply pure pleasure for those who play and unquestionably for those who hear them. It will be enjoyable for me to see Adrian conduct the OSO; he has a style of conducting that only comes from years of experience.”  

Gnam is currently Director of the International Conductors Workshop and Competition, Assistant Professor of Music at Georgia Southern University and Distinguished Artist-in-Residence at Mercer University.

Pancake Breakfast to Benefit Secret Santa Fund

The Cochran Masonic Lodge #217 will host a Pancake Breakfast on February 26 from 7 until 10 a.m. 

All you can eat:  Pancakes, sausage, coffee, tea & OJ. 

All uniformed workers eat in for free. 

All profits go to the Joe Lassiter Secret Santa Fund that provides a Christmas to local families.
