Cochran church helps out with back to school shopping.

School in Bleckley County starts August 4.  Saturday, hundreds still needing school supplies came to First Baptist Church's Hangar for their fourth annual backpack and school supply giveaway.  Volunteers from the church armed with supply lists from all schools helped distribute backpacks, colored pencisl, and other things required for class. Over 300 items were given away

The "Ugandan" Thunder rolled into Bleckley County last night.

The Ugandan Thunder Children's Choir performed at Mt. Calvary Bapitst Church.  Children in the choir are selected from schools and orphanages partnered with Pennies For Posho, a nonprofit that raises money to feed children in Uganda.  Money from a love offering taken will go toward feeding the children.  Audience members saw a video highlighting one of the schools supported, as well as enjoyed songs and dance perfomed by the choir.  To learn more about Ugandan Thunder, click here.

Back to School Prayer Walk for Bleckley Schools July 30.

A Back to School Prayer Walk will be held July 30 at 6 pm in the Bleckley County Middle School gym.  Following a short prayer service, atendees will be dismissed to all schools to walk and pray for the school year.  It's sponsored by the Bleckley Christian Learning Center.

Local church holding annual school supply giveaway July 29.

First Baptist Church of Cochran will hold their Fourth Annual Backpack and School Supply Giveaway July 29 at the Hangar, 130 E Beech St.  It starts at 2 pm and will go until all supplies are given away.  

Ugandan Thunder to perform at local church July 26.

The Ugandan Thunder touring children's choir will be at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church July 26 at 7 pm.  Learn more about them by clicking here.  Mt. Calvary is located at 134 Abney Road in Cochran.

Bleckley School District to participate in USDA Child & Adult Food Program.

The Bleckley School District will begin offering meals through the USA-funded Child and Adult Food Program.  The announcement came via a news release issued Thursday.  Program funding will come from the Board of Educationi, School Nutrition, and the 21st Century After School Program.  Meals will be offered at Bleckley County Learning Center (Pre K), location of the 21st Century After School Program, 242 E Dykes St.
