Hospital to hold diabetes cooking school

Taylor Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville will hold the Right Bright Diabetes Cooking School begining January 20.  It's sponsored by the hospital, the UGA Extension Office and UGA Archway Partnership and is free.  A promotional flyer states "Learn to prepare delicious meals and snacks to control or prevent diabetes and other diseases."  Classes include deserts for special occassions, portion control and seven ways to control your blood pressure.

Each class runs from 5:30-7:30 pm.   After February 24, there will be two classes per month March-May, all held in the hospital training room.  Pre registration is required, call 478-987-2028 to reserve your spot.  Taylor Regional Hospital is located at 790 US 341.

Sergeant Tony Fox from the department of resources says, Two men were rescued      around 11 p.m. last night, after being stranded in the Ocmulgee River.

Fox says the boat they were on may have had motor issues.

Bleckley Relay for Life seeking input on name

Bleckley Relay for Life seeking input on name

The Bleckley Relay For Life is seeking suggestions for the name of 2014's relay.  

It will be carnival-themed.  People are invited to visit the Bleckley Relay Facebook  page and post their ideas.  

A name will be announced in early 2014.

Help Navigating through the Health Insurance Marketplace

Since the healthcare marketplace opened last week with the advent of the Affordable Healthcare Act, there have been many problems with navigating through the website, most of them caused by high volume.  For other people, all the options are overwhelming once they actually get to create that account.

More than 200 of you were able to talk to UGA's Healthcare Navigators during 13WMAZ's phone bank Thursday.

Bleckley Cancer Awareness Event Raises Near $2,300

Crystal Bambrough, organizer of this year's Streak Your Hair, Show You Care event said Tuesday that approximately $2,300 was raised. 

The money will go toward people in Bleckley County battling cancer and their families.  Bambrough also said that remaining event T-Shirts on sale and that she would accept donations through the end of September.

Church Youth Group Presenting Series on Depression

The Cornerstone Church of Cochran Youth Group, the Rock, is currently doing a three-part series on depression during their Monday meetings.  It began with "Un-Masking Your Depression" on September 9. 

An informational flyer says the next two parts of the series will be "Swallowed Hole" on September 16 and "Facing Your Depression" on Septmeber 23.  Both programs start at 7 pm. 

Cornerstone Church of Cochran is located at 106 West Dykes Street.

The cards will be judged and the winner will receive a HUGE trophy.

Anyone can enter the card contest. Not just contestants.  The cards will be sent to the creative coordinator at RMH of ATL. Thanks so much!
