Pollen Count 'High' in the Macon Area

Pollen Count 'High' in the Macon Area

Some mixed news for allergy sufferers:

While the tree pollen count is still high at 1420, that's down from last Wednesday's 3,600 count, according to Dr. Plaxico's Allergy and Asthma Clinic in Macon.

Weeds and grass pollen count is now in the moderate range. That count is up from last week when the weed pollen was absent and the grass count was observed as low.

Eastman Honored for 22 Years of Continued Support of Tree City USA

Eastman Honored for 22 Years of Continued Support of Tree City USA

Eastman received a prestigious award Friday during the annual Arbor Day Celebration.  Scott Evans, Ranger with the Forestry Commission, presented a new flag to Mrs. Bea Edge, Eastman City Manager in honor of the 22 years Eastman has been a Tree City USA with the National Arbor Day Foundation.

“It is a great honor to present this flag to the City of Eastman”, stated Evans. “Eastman has the longest record of this award for the counties I serve ranging from the coast, to the South Carolina border.”

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

To become a Tree City USA, a community must meet four standards: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program, an Arbor Day observance.
