Second Half Powers Bleckley to Win in Football Season Opener | HS Sports
Though the Royals led Hawkinsville 7-0 at halftime of Friday's home opener, it wasn't a great first half offensively. 54 of BC's 90 total yards had come through the air. But thanks to a pair of second half turnovers by the Red Devils, Bleckley's second half would be much different.
The first came in the third. Set up on the 45 after the Red Devils second fumble, BC drove to the seven. Tije'a Randall scored from seven yards out to make it 14-0 with 3:05 left to make it 14-0. Early in the fourth, the Royal offense started on their 46 after a third HHS fumble.
Tavon Ross dashed 46 yards to make it 21-0 with 10:30 left. Hawkinsville's Dontavious Grace returned the ensuing kickoff 81 yards but the conversion failed. Bleckley survived a late fumble and got a sack by Peyton Robinson when the Devils had it 4th and 12 from the BC 14 to win 21-6.
BCHS had 161 second half yards including 123 on the ground. Ross threw for 92 yards on 5 of 8 completions and ran for 85 yards on eight carries. D'Andre Pitts had three receptions for 54 yards. Mario McClendon had 61 all purpose yards, 30 on the ground, 31 receiving.
Bleckley plays at West Laurens September 6. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
